Betafied brings Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 mechanics, combat, and terrain back to modern Bedrock Edition. It is an open-source project combining custom Script API runtime systems and resource packs to recreate the pre-Adventure Update game.
Note for server players: If you are playing on the official Betafied multiplayer server, you do not need to download this addon; the server sends all packs automatically upon connection. See betafied.net for connection details. The downloads below are for local singleplayer and Realm worlds.
Features
Combat & Survival
- Instant eating: Food restores health directly and immediately with no eating delay or animation. Natural health regeneration is disabled, and food does not stack.
- No hunger or sprinting: The hunger bar and XP bar are removed from the HUD. Movement stays at classic walking speeds, with no sprint-jumping across terrain.
- Rapid-fire bows: Arrows fire instantly on release without modern draw charging.
- Beta armor curve: Damage reduction scales with item durability rather than modern flat defense points. Fresh diamond or iron armor absorbs heavy damage, weakening as it takes hits.
- No offhand or shields: Equipment stays in the main hand and hotbar. Offhand slots are disabled.
Classic Mining, Tool & Block Quirks
- Sword-mining speed: Swords slice through cobwebs, wool, leaves, pumpkins, planks, and wooden stairs significantly faster, restoring Beta sword harvesting.
- Lit redstone ore fatigue: Mining redstone ore is slower, recreating the sluggish mining time of redstone.
- Nether water via ice: Breaking ice blocks inside the Nether spawns flowing water, restoring the classic pre-1.3 Nether water trick.
- Fragile wooden boats: Hitting a shoreline, lily pad, or block at full speed shatters boats into sticks and wooden planks.
- Classic fence snapping: Fences only connect to other fences and will not latch onto adjacent solid blocks.
- Working furnace minecarts: Powered minecarts burn coal and push strings of storage and rider carts along tracks.
- No waterlogging: Fences, slabs, and stairs place dry without modern waterlogging mechanics.
Farming & Agriculture
- Distance-based farmland trampling: Walking across crops rolls a random chance to turn farmland back into dirt unless sneaking.
- Fence farmland trick: Farmland placed directly on top of fences cannot be trampled.
- Standing jumps don't trample: Landing from a normal jump leaves crops intact, unlike modern Bedrock.
- Instant bonemeal: Bone meal immediately matures wheat and crops to their final growth stage.
Visuals, Atmosphere & Audio
- Classic underwater overlay: Submerging triggers the vintage opaque blue water screen tint rather than clear modern ocean vision.
- Classic fog & void fog: Overworld atmosphere uses golden-age fog distances, including deep fog in dark caverns.
- Retro audio: Classic explosion sounds, bow snaps, and the original player damage sound ("OOF").
- Subtle apparitions: Rare, distant sightings in the fog that vanish when approached.
Mob Behavior & Nightmares
- Passive animal AI: Animals wander freely without breeding mechanics or despawn cycles.
- Bedside nightmares: Sleeping in an unlit room or near monsters jolts the player awake to a monster ambush.
- Classic mob drops & spawns: Modern drop tables and post-Beta mob mechanics are stripped back to their 2011 defaults.
