Welcome to the Alimony Mod!

Parents who live separately from their children are now responsible for financially supporting them. Payments, debts, emotions and relationships are all handled!

How does it work? Payments are based on the parent's earnings over the last 7 completed days:

• Infants, Toddlers & Children: 20%
• Younger Teens: 25%
• Older Teens: 30%

Example (20% child support, calculated over the last 7 days):

• If a parent earned 1,200 Meow, they pay 240 Meow
• If a parent earned 3,000 Meow, they pay 600 Meow.

Payments are capped at 800 Meow per child, per week. Parents living together have their earnings combined and share one payment obligation. Parents living separately pay individually.

If a parent has no recent earnings, their previous earnings are used instead. If no earnings history is available, the game’s reference income of 1,200 Meow per week is used. Being unemployed or having no savings doesn't exempt a parent from paying.

What happens if a parent doesn't pay? If a parent can't afford the full amount, they'll pay whatever they can. The remaining balance becomes debt, with a 15 Meow daily late fee per child and responsible household. The mod automatically attempts to collect outstanding payments and sends reminders.

Emotions & Relationships Payments have consequences for the whole family:

• Fully paid: Moved +1 and Relationships (Family + Friends or just Friends) +1
• Partially paid: Neutral, no Relationship changes
• Nothing paid: Sad +2 and Relationships −10 (Family + Friends or just Friends)

These effects apply to the paying parent, the child (Child age and older) and the actual parent living with the child. Relationships change both ways.

Payment processing

• Every Monday in the morning (It will not appear right away. It could be like 8:00 AM or 11:00 AM+)
• Works for both played and unplayed families
• Payments and notifications happen automatically
• Pauses during vacations (still In Testing) and doesn't transfer money between cities
• Children stop generating new payments when they grow up, but existing debt remains
• Debts and payment history are saved with your game
