Description
Romna's Ascension turns survival into an RPG. You level up, build a character on a big passive tree, and the world fights back harder the further you travel from spawn.
Requires Romna's Core.
Levels
You go from level 1 to 80. Experience comes from killing monsters, mining, harvesting and discovering new regions. Elites give a lot more, and monsters far below your level give almost nothing, so you can't farm the starting area forever.
Every two levels you get a talent point, plus a bonus point every ten levels. That's 47 points at level 80, enough for about 40% of the tree, so you have to make real choices.
The talent tree
There is one circular tree with 119 nodes, a bit like Path of Exile. You start in the middle and can only take nodes connected to what you already have. It's split into six sectors: Force, Rage, Precision, Shadow, Arcane and Survival. Paths cross between sectors, so hybrid builds work.
- The inner rings hold small passives (damage, health, crit, speed, gathering…).
- The fifth ring has notables skills.
- On the outer edge are eight keystones that change how you play: Colossus, Berserker, Assassin, Windrunner, Archmage, Elemental Avatar, Undying and Master Crafter.
You can respec. It's free until level 10, then once every 30 minutes.
Monster levels
Monster level follows the world generator regions, so the area around spawn stays safe and it gets harder as you head out:
| Region | Levels |
|---|---|
| Spawn area | 1 to 3 |
| Zone 1 | 2 to 15 |
| Zone 2 | 14 to 28 |
| Zone 3 | 27 to 45 |
| Zone 4 | 45 to 75 |
Distance from spawn adds a few levels on top. Higher level monsters have more health and hit harder. The level is shown in their name.
Out of the Breach content scales to you. In a fragment opened with a Fragment Key, monsters take the level of the first player who goes in. World events (Goblin Breach, Coffer Goblin, Void Anomaly…) use the level of the nearest player. That way a max level player doesn't just walk through them, and a new player isn't thrown into a level 70 breach.
Elites
Some monsters spawn as elites with Diablo-style affixes:
- Champion: 1 affix
- Rare: 2 or 3 affixes
- Legendary: 4 affixes and a boss bar
Affixes include Arcane (sweeping lasers), Fiery, Frozen, Electrified, Teleporting, Summoner, Shielded, Enraged, Vampiric, Thorny, Juggernaut, Fast, Bomber, Vortex, Plagued and Explosive. Elites have a glow and their affixes in their name, so you know what you're walking into. They drop better loot.
The Ascension Altar
Craft an Ascension Altar at a workbench (iron, Essence of Fire and stone) and use it to open your tree and set your skills. On servers, the /asc command is reserved for operators, so players have to build and use an altar. /asc stats, /asc hud and /asc zone stay available to everyone.
Languages
English, French, German and Spanish.
Works best with
Ascension runs on its own with Romna's Core, but I recommend playing with all four of my mods together:
- Romna's Core (required): shared stats, so bonuses from different mods add up instead of multiplying each other.
- Romna's Soulforging: gear picks up souls and soul traits as you fight.
- Romna's Quality Crafting: items roll a quality from Poor to Legendary.
They are balanced to be played together. Crit, life steal, damage bonuses and the rest are added up once by the Core, so stacking all four mods doesn't break the game.
Config
Everything is in mods/Romna_Ascension/config.json on the server: level curve, monster scaling per level, elite chances per region, and so on.
Bug reports and feedback are welcome in the comments.
