Maritime Life - Sailable Boats, Ships & Yachts

Real sailing in Hytale. Build a catamaran or sailing yacht, take the helm and sail it yourself. Boost sail, walkable swaying deck, night lights, crew aboard, sleep below deck. Hop on the jet ski and jump the ramp. More ships, harbours and marinas planned.

Description

Maritime Life

Sailable boats, ships and yachts for Hytale.

Hytale has endless oceans and nothing that sails them. Maritime Life changes that. You build a boat, set it on the water, and take the wheel yourself. Friends climb aboard and ride along. It works in multiplayer, on your world or any server.

Your fleet

The Eclipse 41

A 41 ft cruising catamaran with two hulls and a deck you can walk on out on the water, while a friend takes the wheel. Two dolphin seats at the front, hanging right over the bow waves. Boarding ladders at the back. And a big extra speed sail, the code zero, for fast runs.

The boat rocks gently with the waves, and you stand safely on the moving deck. The wood creaks. The water foams behind you.

And you do not have to stay on board. Jump in. Swim between the two hulls, watch your ship rock on the waves beside you. When you are done, climb a ladder at the back and sail on.

When night falls, switch the lights on. A warm lamp hangs over the wheel and spills its light across the deck. Your friends can hang out with you there. Further out, red, green and white navigation lights color the dark water, like on a real ship.

The Aurora 48

A 48 ft sailing yacht with one hull and a deep keel. Take the wheel in the aft cockpit, trim into the waves and watch the bow lift. Two cockpit seats and a bow seat for your crew, a walkable cabin roof, and a gennaker on slot 9 when you want to fly. Board over the swim platform at the stern.

And the Aurora is more than a deck. Climb down the companionway into a real interior: a saloon with sofas, a dining table, a galley and a sideboard, a sleeping cabin with an island bed and wardrobes, and a wetroom forward. All of it sails with you: leave the wheel to a friend and walk it while the yacht heels through the waves.

At night, lie down in the bed and sleep until morning. Your first sleep aboard sets a respawn point on the boat, and the point sails with it: die anywhere in the world, wake up on your yacht, wherever it is now.

The sideboard in the saloon is real storage. Stow your loot below deck; it stays with the boat, through server restarts and even inside the packed-up item.

The Splash 9

A two-seat jet ski, the yachts' tender. Swim up from any side, hop on, grab the bars and go: it is fast, it turns on a dime, and it leans into every turn. Press 9 for turbo. A friend climbs on behind you and rides pillion. The engine revs with your speed, a rooster tail of spray follows you, and at night the headlight shows the way.

The Kicker 8

A floating jump ramp: 8 blocks of run, 5 blocks of rise. Moor it in open water, line up the low end with the jet ski, come in at full throttle and fly. Real physics carry you through the air until you slam back down in a sheet of spray. Steps on the ramp let you walk up and watch your friends send it.

Every marina needs one. Every insurer hates it.

How to get the boats

  • Craft them at any workbench (Tinkering tab). The Eclipse 41 and the Aurora 48 need wood trunks, wool, fibre, iron bars and tree sap; the Splash 9 iron bars, wood trunks, wool and tree sap; the Kicker 8 wood trunks, iron bars and tree sap.
  • Or in creative mode: type /maritimelife item eclipse41, /maritimelife item aurora48, /maritimelife item splash9 or /maritimelife item kicker8.
  • Hold the item, face open water, and right-click. The boat settles onto the waves, ready to board.

How to sail

  • Take the wheel: stand at the wheel (the helm) and press F.
  • Steer with W A S D. W is forward. S slows you down and goes in reverse. A and D turn the boat. Your camera stays free, so you can look around while you sail.
  • Leave the wheel: press F again, or jump.
  • Boost sail: press 9 while sailing fast. A second, bigger sail opens at the front (the code zero on the catamaran, the gennaker on the yacht) and you go much faster. Press 9 again to put it away. Careful: a hard turn can blow the sail!
  • Helm view: press 7 to steer in first person from the wheel. Press 7 again to step back out.
  • Boat camera: press 8 for a wide view of your ship. Press 8 again to go back.

How to ride the jet ski

  • Get on: swim up to the Splash 9 from any side and jump to hop on. Stand on it and press F to grab the handlebars.
  • Ride with W A S D: W is the throttle, S brakes and backs up, A and D turn. Press 9 for turbo, 9 again to switch it off.
  • Jump: hit the low end of a Kicker 8 ramp at full throttle. The ski goes airborne, you hold on through the arc, and you land in a burst of spray. Keep the throttle pinned and ride on.
  • Get off: press F again, or jump.
  • Take a friend: they climb on behind you and press F to ride pillion. Jump to hop off.
  • Pack it up: swim next to the stopped, empty jet ski and press F on the hull, then F again to confirm.

Life on board

  • Walk the deck and the roof when you are not at the wheel. In multiplayer, you can walk them while the boat sails, as long as someone else is at the helm. The sway carries you; you will not fall off.
  • Go below deck on the Aurora 48: climb down the companionway into the saloon and the cabin. This also works while someone else is sailing.
  • Dolphin seats: climb onto a seat over the bow of the Eclipse 41 and press F to sit. Your legs hang over the water and the bow wave rushes past right below you. It is the best seat on the boat. The name comes from sailing: out on the ocean, this is the spot to watch dolphins ride the bow wave. Press F again, or jump, to stand up.
  • Sleep aboard the Aurora 48: press F on the bed to lie down. At night, when every player sleeps, morning comes. Your first sleep names a respawn point on the boat; from then on you respawn on your yacht, wherever you have sailed it.
  • Stow your things: press F on the sideboard in the Aurora's saloon to open its storage. The contents stay with the boat.
  • Fell in the water? Swim to a ladder at the back (the stern) and jump to climb back aboard.
  • Lights: type /maritimelife lights. A warm cockpit light around the wheel, plus real navigation lights: red and green at the front, white at the top of the mast and at the stern. Below deck on the Aurora, light strips, downlights and reading lamps come on with them. The jet ski gets a headlight and a tail light.

Your boat stays yours

  • Your boat is locked to you when you place it. Only you can drive it, pack it up or sleep in its bed.
  • Add friends as crew: /maritimelife access allow <name>. Remove them again with /maritimelife access deny <name>; that also clears their respawn point on your boat, even while they are offline.
  • See who is who: /maritimelife access crew shows the owner, the lock state and the crew list.
  • Open it for everyone: /maritimelife access unlock.
  • Guests can always sit and ride along.

Pack it up

Press F on the hull (away from the wheel and seats), then F again to confirm. The boat goes back into your pocket as an item, storage contents included. No boat is ever lost.

For server admins

  • Speed, turning, boost sail and turbo can be tuned per vessel in a config file. It is written for you on first start: mods/Trendvogel_MaritimeLife/tuning.json. If an edit breaks it, the server refuses to start and the log names the exact problem; the file is never overwritten.
  • Type /maritimelife in game to see all commands. Spawn and remove commands work in creative mode only.
  • Admins (permission group hytale:Admin) can force-remove any boat, including locked ones, and /maritimelife remove all clears every boat in the whole world, loaded or not. Both ask you to run the command twice to confirm.

Where this is going

The boats available today are just the start of a bigger plan:

  • A walk-in saloon below deck for the Eclipse 41, like the Aurora's
  • Real wind and a true sailing model
  • Anchors
  • More vessels, up to big ships and motor yachts
  • Harbours and marinas to call home

Good to know

  • Maritime Life is in active development: not finished, and getting better all the time.
  • The mod targets Hytale Update 6 (0.6.0). Updates come regularly.
  • Windows are tinted but not see-through yet. That waits on a game feature and will come.
