Chest Finder

Never dig through your chests again. This mod adds the Chest Finder — a craftable, animated block that keeps track of everything stored around it and points you straight to the chest you need.

How it works

Place the Chest Finder near your storage area and interact with it to open the finder screen:

• 🔍 Search — see every item stored in chests, crates, and barrels within 50 blocks, aggregated with total counts. Type in the search bar to filter the list.
• ✨ Locate — click an item and watch: a glowing green orb flies from the Chest Finder to every chest containing that item, then the chests pulse with a soft green aura so you can't miss them. Only you see the effect — no visual spam for other players.
• 📦 Stack — one click sorts your inventory (including backpack and hotbar) into the surrounding chests. Items only go into chests that already contain the same item, so your sorting system stays exactly the way you organized it.

The block itself

The Chest Finder is a fully animated block: it wakes up with an animation when you walk up to it, keeps spinning while you're nearby, and winds down when you leave.

Craft it at a Workbench (Tinkering tab).

A note from the author

I make the 3D models and animations for this mod myself — and I'm not a professional artist, just a player who wanted this to exist. My first approach was to modify the Chest and Inventory UI but sadly that's, as far as I know, not possible right now. If the model looks a little handmade, that's because it is. 🙂 Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are always welcome!

Compatibility

• Server-side mod — players join with nothing extra to install; the assets are streamed automatically.
• Doesn't touch vanilla chests or inventory behavior in any way. No overwritten game files, no changed chest UI.
• Works with any container blocks whose ID matches chest / crate / barrel / coffer / strongbox.
