Description

Drevaxis by Lorewound

Drevaxis is a compact mechanical automation mod in the spirit of the classic quarry-and-engine tech mods. Pump Water and Oil, send them through glass pipes to an engine, and let it drive an Excavator, a quarry that digs a 15 × 15 pit layer by layer and sends what it mines to your chests. No electricity, no cables, no upgrade tiers: an engine drives the machine it touches.

Requirements

Hytale version 0.6.x and 0.7.x, one file for both. Started on 0.6.4, 0.6.8 and 0.7.0.
Other versions On 0.5 or 0.8 the mod stops the server at start-up with a clear message instead of risking your world.
Side Server (and single player). Nothing to install on the client.
Dependencies None
Release type Release (early version)
License All Rights Reserved

Install

  1. Put Drevaxis-<version>.jar into your server's or world's mods folder.
  2. Start the game. The log shows Drevaxis <version> initialized on Hytale <your version>.
  3. In the game, /drevaxisguide shows the short guide.

The machines

Machine What it does
Pump Pumps Water from beside or below it, or Oil from a field under it. Once the machine is placed in an oil field, switching to oil mode shows how close it is.
Carbon Engine Burns Charcoal. Drives a Pump, or an Excavator slowly. Feeds itself from a chest beside it.
Oil Engine Burns Oil, cooled by Water. Drives an Excavator.
Excavator Digs the 15 × 15 area in front of it, layer by layer, into a 24-slot output.

Tubes

There are two types of tubes. Fluid tubes carry fluids, cargo tubes carry items. Tubes join by themselves; you can see what moves inside.

Recipes

Everything is crafted at the vanilla Workbench, in the Tinkering category. Make the three parts first; the machines are built from them.

Item Makes Ingredients Workbench tier
Reinforced Plate 4 2 Iron Ingot, 1 Charcoal 1
Mechanical Core 1 2 Iron Ingot, 1 Copper Ingot, 1 Reinforced Plate 1
Drill Head 1 2 Reinforced Plate, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Mechanical Core, 1 Cobalt Ingot 2
Fluid Tube 8 1 Reinforced Plate, 1 Copper Ingot, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Sand 1
Cargo Tube 8 1 Reinforced Plate, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Hardwood Log 1
Pump 1 2 Reinforced Plate, 1 Mechanical Core, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Copper Ingot 1
Carbon Engine 1 2 Reinforced Plate, 1 Mechanical Core, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Hardwood Log, 1 Copper Ingot 1

Oil Engine

1 4 Reinforced Plate, 1 Mechanical Core, 2 Copper Ingot, 2 Iron Ingot, 1 Sand 2
Excavator 1 6 Reinforced Plate, 2 Mechanical Core, 1 Drill Head, 2 Cobalt Ingot, 2 Iron Ingot, 1 Copper Ingot 2

Hardwood Log is an Oak, Ash, Apple or Fir Log (a log, not planks). Sand is sand of any colour.

A first working set (one Excavator, one Oil Engine, two Pumps, two Carbon Engines, sixteen Fluid Tubes, eight Cargo Tubes) costs 44 Iron, 17 Copper, 3 Cobalt, 8 Charcoal, 3 logs and 3 Sand.

Power and heat

Carbon Engine 1 DU. One Charcoal burns for 24 seconds of work; nothing burns while the machine is idle.
Oil Engine 3 DU with Oil and Water. Without Water it gives half and stops to cool down by itself; it never explodes.
Where engines go Beside the machine, and beside those engines: power passes from engine to engine. Any mix counts.
Excavator rating 21 DU (seven Oil Engines). More digs a little faster, up to 24 DU, and heats the machine.
Overheating At full heat an alarm counts down thirty seconds, then the Excavator explodes and is lost with its frame and whatever is in its output. Take engines away or switch it off before then and it cools.
Output 24 slots. When they are full the dig stops and waits; press TAKE ALL or lead a Cargo Tube to a chest.

More engines dig faster: a Carbon Engine digs three blocks in four seconds, an Oil Engine twice that, seven Oil Engines clear a layer in about a minute, and an eighth overheats the machine until it explodes. Every machine has a panel that says what it is doing and what it needs next. A running Excavator keeps the area around it loaded, so it works while you are away.

Example Setup Screenshots

Getting started

  1. Place a Pump beside Water and a Carbon Engine beside the pump. Load Charcoal.
  2. Place a second Pump, switch it to Oil in its panel. There is always an Oil field within about fifty blocks; the panel gives the direction and black smoke marks the spot.
  3. Lead a Fluid Tube from each pump to an Oil Engine: Water to the blue port, Oil to the green.
  4. Place an Excavator beside the engine and switch it on. It builds its frame, then digs.
  5. Put a Cargo Tube on top of the Excavator and lead it to chests.

Open any machine with the interact key (F). Its panel shows a coloured status (green working, amber waiting, red something to fix, grey off), one sentence saying what to do next, and a short checklist. Blue always means Water and green always means Oil.

For server owners

mods/com.lorewound_Drevaxis/config.json switches the overheating rules, the explosion, terrain clearing, chunk keeping and the visual overlay.

Command Who What it does
/drevaxisguide everyone The short guide
/drevaxis everyone Version and the mod's health
/drevaxisadmin config, reload, doctor drevaxis.admin Show the settings, read config.json again, check everything

The Excavator digs everything breakable in its 15 × 15 area and skips chests, machines and protected ground. While building its frame it clears natural terrain only.

Good to know (beta)

This is a beta. These things have not been tested yet, so treat them with care and please report what you find:

  • Multiplayer. Developed and played by one player. Several players using the same machine is untested.
  • Other mods. It runs beside other plugins, but no combination has been tested.
  • Claim and protection mods. An Excavator asks other mods, in the name of the player who placed it, whether each block may be broken, and waits while that player is offline. This has not been tried with a real claim mod, and the frame and the pumps are not checked this way.
  • Removing the mod. Break your machines and tubes first; they come back as items. What is left in the world becomes unknown blocks. Back up first.
  • Placing machines facing all four directions.
  • Machines far from a running Excavator (more than about 80 blocks) stop when nobody is near.
  • The drill kills any creature it reaches (within a block and a half of the cell it is digging), pets and villagers included, and the machine collects items lying in the pit.
  • A chest or other block that stores something is never dug; it stays, with the column under it.
  • The item tooltip can stay on screen after closing a machine panel with Esc; moving the mouse over another slot clears it.
  • All numbers are playtest values and will change.

Back up your world before installing any beta.
