2/27/2026 UPDATE 3 NOTICE: Hytale's update 3 changed a lot with Hytale mods. Currently, to get Depth of Flavor to work on your singleplayer world, right click on the world from the "Select a World" menu, and check the box "Skip mod validation". For multiplayer servers, go into the config.json file in the server and add the following line to the config to get it to work:

  "SkipModValidationForVersion": "1a311a5921cb413cc899ada8941ff0b9ce1d64e1"

Mod Info

Depth of Flavor attempts to address the current simplistic state of food buffs in Hytale, while also adding more interesting crafting chains and resource gathering in relation to food in the game.

Current Features

  • Reworked food buff system with 12 new buffs, each with three tier levels. Vanilla foods and mod foods all have these buffs. 
  • Buffs follow "upscaling" behavior, where a lower tier buff will be replaced with a higher tier buff if a new food consumed provides it. Buffs are handled independently of each other.
  • Multi-use meals baked in the Cooking Pot. Cooking Pot is retrieved when the meal is used up. Careful though, wildlife is known to eat some of your food if they take your life...
  • New Clay Oven crafting building for cooking raw/unprocessed meals. Only allows for some fuel types.
  • New Salt Trap building for extracting salt from saltwater. 
  • Rebalanced Cows, Sheep, and Chickens to make gathering their resources more easy while we wait on an animal breeding update.
  • Two new watering can tiers with much higher capacity.

  • More foods and buffs.
  • Unique icons for each buff.
  • Prefabs to get some DoF items in the world.
  • Magic items to assist with farming (harvesting, watering, planting, animal duplication)
  • Faction vendors.
  • More interesting spices.
  • Deep meat butchering system.

Is this mod for you?

This mod is intended for those who want a more involved survival experience where tactical choices can be made based on the adventure you plan on having. Visiting the desert where poisonous creatures live in large, flat planes? Maybe I'll bring poison resistance and speed boosting foods. Going to mine for adamantite in the volcanos? I should bring fire resistance foods.

This mod is also for those who aren't against slightly more complicated crafting chains when making foods and are ok with spending time cooking.

Balance is something that I am still watching closely, currently DoF nerfs early game foods but they quickly scale to be much more powerful and interesting as you progress through the mod.
