DarkMatterEconomy Mounts

Elder Scrolls Online inspired mount system

Hytale Dark Matter Economy Mounts

Expand your adventures with immortal horses and flying dragons, persistent mount ownership, Ecotale-powered vendors, mount quests, stamina, progression, and configurable abilities.

Built for Hytale 0.6.8, with separate player and admin menus, optional HyCitizens integration, and public Java APIs.

Current version: 1.2.4

What Is This?

Dark Matter Mounts adds a mount collection system to your Hytale server. Players can purchase mounts from NPC vendors, earn them through configured quests, or obtain them from configured NPC drops.

Summon a horse for journeys across land or take to the skies on a Fire or Frost Dragon. Your mount collection is saved across sessions and server restarts, so dismissing a mount preserves your ownership, progression, and selected appearance.

Server owners can shape the system around their economy and gameplay. Customize prices, drop rates, stamina, progression, abilities, cooldowns, vendor offers, and quest rewards through configuration files, admin commands, or the in-game settings menu.

Key Features

  • Horses and Flying Dragons: Travel across land on horses or explore the skies with Fire and Frost Dragons using vanilla Hytale models.

  • Immortal Mounts: Mounts are invulnerable and protected against damage. Mount protection does not make the rider invulnerable.

  • Persistent Collections: Save mount ownership, selected skins, progression, stamina, and boost cooldowns across sessions.

  • Ecotale Integration: Purchase mounts and receive currency quest rewards through your server’s existing Ecotale economy.

  • NPC Mount Vendors: Place vendors in your world and configure their mount offers. Players must visit a live nearby vendor to purchase.

  • Mount Quests: Configure objectives and reward players with currency, mounts, or both. Repeatable quests require a fresh completion cycle.

  • Configurable Mount Drops: Add acquisition chances to matching NPC deaths credited to players. Drops are disabled by default until configured.

  • Stamina and Sprinting: Ground sprinting consumes mount stamina, while resting restores it. Exhausted mounts are limited to walking until they recover.

  • Terrain Effects: Customize mud slowdown and additional sprint stamina consumption when travelling uphill.

  • Level-100 Progression: Earn riding EXP, develop individual mounts, and unlock configurable abilities. Every mount has a maximum level of 100.

  • RuneScape-Style EXP: Use the RuneScape experience curve by default or select custom level requirements through the admin menu.

  • Configurable Abilities: Adjust speed boost strength, duration, cost, cooldown, and unlock level. Unlock a passive ability that removes mud slowdown.

  • Mounted Stamina HUD: Display your mount’s remaining stamina while riding, with configurable dimensions and placement.

  • Vanilla Appearance Options: Configure skins using available vanilla model assets and optional boost particle effects.

  • Player Menus: View your collection, summon and ride mounts, purchase vendor offers, and accept or claim quests.

  • Separate Admin Settings Menu: Edit settings in a dedicated admin menu protected by permission checks.

  • HyCitizens Compatibility: Connect existing HyCitizens NPCs to mount vendors and quest menus.

  • Public Java APIs: Integrate mount ownership, vendors, quests, custom progress events, citizen bindings, and settings with other plugins.

Horses are land-only. Entering water dismisses the summoned horse while preserving ownership. There is no carry system.

Dragon Flight and Exhaustion

Dragons maintain a 100-point stamina pool at every level. Levelling increases their available flight time rather than their total stamina.

By default, a fully charged dragon has 60 seconds of flight at level 1, increasing by 1 second per level. This gives a level-100 dragon a base flight duration of 159 seconds. Hovering consumes flight stamina, and boosts spend additional stamina.

Administrators can choose between two flight progression modes:

  • Seconds per level: Add a configurable number of seconds with each level.

  • Percentage per level: Increase flight duration by a configurable percentage compounded with each level.

When flight stamina reaches zero, the rider stays mounted while the dragon glides toward the ground. The dragon can no longer gain altitude, but reduced horizontal steering remains available. Glide descent and steering speed are configurable.

Stamina does not regenerate during flight or glide. After landing, stamina recovers. Running unlocks at 10% capacity, and players can manually enable flight again.

Dragons collide with solid terrain while walking, flying, and gliding. Ordinary obstacle collisions keep the rider mounted and preserve the summoned mount.

Configuration and Controls

Use /dmemount admin to open the dedicated admin settings menu.

Customize the experience to suit your server:

  • Mount prices and vendor offers.

  • Drop probabilities and NPC filters.

  • Riding EXP earned per metre.

  • RuneScape or custom EXP progression.

  • Individual level requirements in custom progression mode.

  • Horse starting stamina and total stamina at level 100.

  • Dragon starting flight duration and growth per level.

  • Seconds-based or percentage-based flight progression.

  • Stamina regeneration, sprint drain, and terrain costs.

  • Ground speed, flight speed, jump force, and glide behavior.

  • Boost strength, duration, cost, cooldown, and unlock level.

  • Quest objectives, rewards, mount filters, and repeatability.

  • Vanilla model choices, rider seat offsets, and boost particles.

  • Stamina HUD visibility, dimensions, and placement.

  • Command aliases, collection limits, and save intervals.

The plugin creates config.json and players.json in its data directory. Important ownership and transaction changes save immediately; travel progress and stamina save periodically.

Configuration changes are validated before being saved and applied. Mount appearance choices take effect on the relevant spawn or ride.

Steering, sprinting, jumping, and flight ascent/descent use your normal Hytale controls once the relevant mount mode is active. Configurable controls within the mod change command aliases. Physical keyboard bindings remain in Hytale’s client settings.

Commands and Permissions

Player commands require no dedicated mod permission.

All admin commands and settings menu actions require:

darkmatter.mounts.admin

Assign this permission through your server’s permissions system. Operators with wildcard permission also have access.

Command Description
/dmemount admin Open the separate admin settings menu.
/dmemount admin get <path> Read a configuration value.
/dmemount admin set <path> <JSON> Validate, save, and apply a setting.
/dmemount admin reload Reload the configuration file.

Configuration Examples

/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.price 500
/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.xpPerMetre 2
/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.staminaAtLevel100 600
/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.boostCooldown 15
/dmemount admin set mounts.fire_dragon.flightSecondsAtLevel1 60
/dmemount admin set mounts.fire_dragon.flightGrowthMode "seconds"
/dmemount admin set mounts.fire_dragon.flightSecondsPerLevel 1
/dmemount admin set mounts.fire_dragon.glideDescentSpeed 2

For custom EXP requirements:

/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.xpCurve "custom"
/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.xpPerLevel 500
/dmemount admin set mounts.horse.xpRequiredByLevel {"2":100,"3":250,"100":5000}

Individual EXP entries specify the cost to reach the named destination level. Unspecified levels use the configured default cost. RuneScape mode ignores custom level costs.

The admin settings menu provides configuration editing without requiring players to leave the game.

HyCitizens Integration

With HyCitizens installed, bind existing citizens to mount vendors, quest menus, or both. Interacting with a bound citizen opens the appropriate menu. Players still choose whether to accept quests or claim rewards.

Required permission: darkmatter.mounts.admin

Command Description
/dmemount admin citizen bind <citizen ID> <vendor> [quest] Bind a citizen to a vendor and optionally preselect a quest.
/dmemount admin citizen quest <citizen ID> <quest> Bind a citizen to the quest menu.
/dmemount admin citizen unbind <citizen ID> Remove a citizen binding.
/dmemount admin citizen list View connection status and configured bindings.

HyCitizens is optional. Dark Matter Mounts also provides its own vendor placements.

Multiplayer and Currency Handling

Dark Matter Mounts uses Hytale’s movement and entity synchronization. Mount movement is checked on the server for movement limits, obstacle collisions, water restrictions, and permitted flight. Ordinary dragon obstacle collisions preserve the mounted session.

Currency operations are recorded in a transaction journal. If a payment result is uncertain, further purchases and claims for that account are blocked until an administrator verifies the Ecotale ledger and reconciles the transaction. Reconciliation can deliver the recorded reward without making another currency call.

Developer Integration

Public MountAPI, VendorAPI, QuestAPI, and CitizenAPI services allow other plugins to:

  • Grant mounts and request mount actions.

  • Register vendors and quests.

  • Open vendor menus.

  • Submit verified custom quest progress events.

  • Read and edit configuration.

  • Manage HyCitizens vendor and quest bindings.

API documentation, configuration examples, source code, and reproducible test scripts are included in the source package.

Installation and Requirements

  • Hytale: 0.6.8.

  • Java: 25.

  • Required economy plugin: Ecotale. Validation used Ecotale 1.1.2.

  • Optional NPC integration: HyCitizens. Validation used HyCitizens 2.0.

Stop your server, place DarkMatterMounts-1.2.4.jar in its mods directory alongside Ecotale, and restart.

When upgrading, remove the previous mod JAR and keep your existing configuration and player data. The JAR includes the mod’s UI and asset resources and uses vanilla game models.

To create your first vendor, stand on clear dry ground and run:

/dmemount admin vendor add stable

Players can then visit the stable to purchase a mount and open /dmemount to manage their collection and start riding.
