🏰 Overview

Hytale Colonies is an early-stage mod that introduces recruitable NPC companions to your world. Currently, you can explore the overworld to discover wandering colonists, recruit them into your party, and manage their equipment and behaviour as they follow and fight alongside you.

While the mod functions as an advanced companion system right now, the ultimate vision is much larger: transforming Hytale into a full-fledged settlement management game where your colonists will eventually gather resources, construct buildings from blueprints, and maintain a living society, heavily inspired by the Minecraft's Minecolonies mod.

🚧 Project Status: Alpha (v0.2.10)

This mod is currently in Active Development. While foundational features like dialogue systems, companion pathfinding, combat AI, and inventory management are implemented and playable, the project is still in its Alpha phase. I am actively working towards the larger colony-building vision. Download it to try out the current companion mechanics and follow the ongoing development!

⚔️ Followers & Combat (Current Phase - Implemented)

NPC Recruitment & Management: Discover colonists organically wandering around Forgotten Temples in the overworld. Every colonist generates with a randomized, unique appearance. Interact with them using a fully integrated Dialogue UI to recruit them, create your own Colony, and manage your party.
Advanced AI Behaviors: Colonists aren't just statues. They rest, wander, follow you seamlessly using smart pathfinding, and maintain personal space using Boids-style separation. You can customize their behavior via dialogue, setting them to be aggressive guards, defensive companions, or passive followers.
Dynamic Combat System: Your colonists fight back! They will defend themselves, their colony, and you, while a robust friendly-fire prevention system ensures you can fight side-by-side without accidental hits. If unarmed, they will flee in panic and actively scavenge for dropped weapons to turn the tide.
Equipment UI & Inventory: Give your colonists armor, swords, and items. Use a dual-panel inventory screen to transfer items seamlessly. Their health and defense stats dynamically adjust based on the armor they wear!

🏡 Colony Life (Planned for Future Updates)

Construction & Blueprints: Place structure blueprints for your colonists to build block-by-block.
Roles & Economy: Assign specialized roles (Builder, Miner, Guard) and have gatherers deposit resources into the colony's shared storage. Colonists will be able to manage storages and use crafting stations in a way inspired like Necesse.
Factions & Territory: Claim territory with banners and manage relations with other settlements.

🧪 Testing the Mod

Want to dive in right away?

To quickly test the systems:

Open the chat console and grant yourself operator: /op self
Run /colonies spawn to create a colonist right next to you.
Press 'F' to interact and open the Dialogue UI.
Recruit them, give them some gear, and head into battle!
