🌎 Blocky Vehicles

Create your own vehicle made out of blocks, then place down the Steering Wheel to give it life. This mod will let you convert anything you build into either a car, boat, or airship.

⭐ Getting Started

To get started with the mod, go to your Workbench and craft the new Vehicle Workbench. This is a new workbench which has all the new vehicle parts. Initially you will only be able to craft two items:

The Steering Wheel from the Vehicle Steering tab, and

The Tractor Wheel from the Vehicle Mobility tab.

You can use these to build your first vehicle. To do this, find a flat surface and place down 4 Tractor Wheels. Next, build out a layer of wood or stone on top of those, this is the body of your vehicle. Next, go to the front of the vehicle and place your Steering Wheel. Finally, hit 'F' to interact with the Steering Wheel and click Create New Vehicle. If you did it right, it should offer to create a new vehicle, click Proceed.

Now - simply hit 'F' again to interact and choose Steer. You can now drive the vehicle. Press 'w' to move forward, and use the mouse to turn left or right. To stop driving, press 'F' again (you may have to press 'F' twice to stop driving sometimes - this will be fixed eventually) .

Note that when constructing a new vehicle, it will automatically pickup all attached blocks to the vehicle. This means you should build your vehicles floating off the ground initially. If you build them touching the ground, the vehicle will generally pick up far too many blocks and you will not be able to create it.

Important note: as a general rule try to keep the steering wheel area clear of blocks that the driver could collide into when turning. If the driver collides into these it can cause their yaw or location to change unpredictably. This is, generally speaking, a Hytale client issue and not an issue with the mod.

🪑Seating

The above steps can be used to pilot a vehicle but if you want to bring a friend, you will want to add seats to the vehicle. Interact with the steering wheel and choose Disassemble to make changes to your vehicle. Go to your Builder's Workbench and build a Simple Wooden Stool and add it to the vehicle, then once again choose Create New Vehicle. Now - when you go to drive the vehicle, a friend can press 'F' to interact with the stool so that they can go along with the ride also.

⚙️Tier 2 and 3

You can upgrade the Vehicle workbench to Tier 2 which grants access to boats and faster cars. To craft faster cars, build the car as usual but instead use the new tier 2 item "Sport Tire". These will accelerate much faster and have a much higher top speed.

Tier 2 also grants access to boats. To build a boat, build out a boat design then add the Vehicle Steering item to the back: "Boat Rudder". This designates you want to make a boat. Then, to add power to it, craft the "Forward Propeller" item and stick it on the back of the boat. Boats can operate on land but they will move very slowly. On water, they will be very fast.

After upgrading to Tier 3 you can craft Airships. To make an airship, build out a design and then add the "Air Rudder" to the back of it. Then, add 1 or more Propellers (facing upwards) to it. Then add 1 or more Forward Propellers to it. After creating the airship, you can now use it to fly. To takeoff, press spacebar repeatedly (The original design was that holding the spacebar would lift off, but the Hytale client doesn't really allow this right now - so you have to repeatedly press spacebar to gain height). To go back down, hold the Alt key (the walk hotkey).

🗲Increasing speed and acceleration

Each vehicle is limited by the Mobility item which is used to power it. The Tractor Wheel has a certain max speed and max acceleration and it will never go beyond that. To go faster, you will need to upgrade to the Sport Tire. Each block you add to your vehicle increases its weight and with a large enough vehicle it will not achieve the maximum possible top speed or acceleration. For example, if you build a massive boat and have 1 propeller, it may not reach the maximum propeller speed. To counteract this, add more than 1 propeller. The large the boat, the more propellers you will need. This goes for all vehicle types.

🏴󠁣󠁩󠁺󠁺󠁿Misc

As of v1.01 the mod has support for chests, workbenches, and furnaces. In 1.02 and up, they can also be used while in motion.

The mod does have a HUD which appears when you drive the vehicle (the speedometer). If you use this as your only HUD mod it will be fine. But if you want to use it with other HUD mods, you will need to download AutoMultiHud. I have added this as a dependency for the mod (though it is not technically required).

🚧 Work in Progress

This mod is a work in progress and right now it's not fully done. I will be adding more to it over time and fixing bugs.

Some things I would like to add:

Engines that are a requirement to make a working vehicle, which require fuel to operate.
The ability to reassemble a disassembled vehicle instead of constructing a brand new vehicle
Vehicle names
The ability to track or teleport to vehicles
A better system for block weights
A config screen that can be summoned in-game with a command
