BetterWorldGen

Create persistent V2 worlds with regional terrain, rivers, oceans, and a discovery archipelago featuring 64 native and adapted biomes, including experimental demos.

Better World Gen lets server owners create persistent worlds with Hytale's native V2 generator. Explore plains, deserts, taiga, volcanic regions and oceans, alongside floating islands, ancient forests and highlands in one continuous Orbis world.

Version 0.2.0-alpha.3 targets Hytale 0.7.1 and 0.7.2 with Java 25. One Better World Gen download includes the optional compatibility adapter for MMO Mob Scaling 1.2.2. The adapter is disabled by default. The new activation workflow and MMO integration have not been validated on a server or in game.

Explore Orbis

  • 21 biomes: 18 regional biomes based on Hytale content, including two desert compatibility variants, plus three original Better World Gen biomes.
  • Plains with oak woodlands, gorges, hills, Trork areas and rivers.
  • Floating islands above traversable lower terrain, with grass, trees and ores.
  • Ancient Forest with redwoods and oaks, and Highlands with tall ridges.
  • Regions distributed by seed and generated as players explore.
  • Prepared spawn locations, numeric or random seeds, and persistent world saving.
  • A native Forgotten Temple entrance near the starting region and experimental surface encounters.

Installation

Requires Hytale Server 0.7.1 or 0.7.2, matching game assets and Java 25. The native HytaleGenerator, Instances and BuilderTools modules must be enabled. No third-party mod is required for basic world generation.

  1. Back up your universe/ folder and stop the server.
  2. Replace the previous BetterWorldGen JAR in mods/ with BetterWorldGen-0.2.0-alpha.3.jar. Keep only one version installed. This is the only Better World Gen file to download and install.
  3. Restart the server and create a world as an administrator:
/bwg create orbis_adventure 142026

Wait for the world-ready message, then join:

/bwg tp orbis_adventure

Omit the seed to choose a random one. Server console commands use the same syntax without the leading slash; teleportation requires a connected player.

Optional MMO Mob Scaling compatibility

The adapter maps each of the 21 Orbis biomes to an equivalent V1 zone understood by MMO Mob Scaling 1.2.2. MMO continues to calculate difficulty using its own distance, player power, group and rarity settings, including your existing zone overrides.

With MMO's default configuration, base difficulty floors are:

  • Plains: 1–3.
  • Deserts: 5–10.
  • Taiga: 12–18.
  • Volcanic regions: 20–28.
  • Ancient Forest: 5; Floating Islands: 10; Highlands: 18; Oceans: 12.
  • The starting oak area uses Zone1_Spawn, with a default floor of 1.

These are base difficulty floors, not player levels or fixed final difficulty. Distance, player scaling and server settings can change the result.

The adapter is included in the main JAR and disabled by default. World generation works without enabling it. To enable this integration:

  1. Install MMO Mob Scaling 1.2.2 and its required dependencies normally.
  2. With Better World Gen running, use /bwg mmo enable as an administrator. It saves your choice and extracts the bundled startup helper into the mod's data folder.
  3. Copy the exact -javaagent argument printed by that command into your server's Java/JVM startup arguments BEFORE -jar. Keep your other startup arguments, then restart the server to activate the helper.
  4. Use /bwg mmo status to check the result and /mobscaling inspect to view MMO's zone and difficulty calculation.

The generated helper is normally located at:

mods/com.hexone.betterworldgen_BetterWorldGen/compat/BetterWorldGen-MmoCompat-0.2.0-alpha.3.jar

Example startup placement, when launching from the server folder:

java -Xmx8G "-javaagent:mods/com.hexone.betterworldgen_BetterWorldGen/compat/BetterWorldGen-MmoCompat-0.2.0-alpha.3.jar" -jar HytaleServer.jar --assets Assets.zip

Use the exact path printed on your server. The helper is extracted automatically; there is no second Better World Gen download and no manual helper installation. First activation still requires the startup argument and a server restart. Your hosting panel must allow Java/JVM startup arguments. MMO and its dependencies remain separate downloads.

Use /bwg mmo disable to turn the adapter off immediately and save that choice for future restarts. You can then remove the -javaagent argument at the next restart. Enabling or disabling the adapter does not reset statistics already assigned to creatures.

The adapter supports MMO Mob Scaling 1.2.2 only; unsupported versions are rejected with a diagnostic. An inactive or failed adapter leaves MMO's original behaviour in effect, including its fallback difficulty.

Existing Orbis worlds can be kept. Previously scaled creatures may retain their statistics until they are replaced by new spawns. This integration applies to Orbis; it does not change MMO Hub quests or NPC placement.

Commands

  • /bwg create <name> [seed] — Create a new Orbis world.
  • /bwg createatlas <name> [seed] — Create a legacy Atlas world.
  • /bwg tp <name> — Teleport to a loaded world's spawn.
  • /bwg setdefault <name> — Set the server's default world without moving existing players.
  • /bwg info — Show commands, loaded worlds and MMO adapter status; in game, also identify the current world's profile.
  • /bwg mmo status — Show the optional MMO compatibility state and startup requirements.
  • /bwg mmo enable — Save the enabled setting, extract the bundled helper and print the required startup argument.
  • /bwg mmo disable — Disable the adapter immediately and save the disabled setting.

Permission: betterworldgen.admin. Alias: /betterworldgen. Existing worlds are never replaced by the create command.

Dungeons, the Forgotten Temple and progression

Orbis includes a native Forgotten Temple entrance and experimental surface ruins and camps. It does not reproduce all V1 dungeon-placement rules or provide a complete underground cave network.

The full survival route through the Goblin Lab, upgrades, keys, Deepworks and Gobliterator is not guaranteed. Keep a standard Exploration world available if complete official progression is a priority. The MMO compatibility adapter does not add missing dungeons, bosses or progression content.

Existing worlds and other mods

Alpha.3 retains the existing Orbis generation profile and does not require a new world for the MMO adapter. Older Atlas worlds keep their separate profile, with 64 included biomes: 18 regional and 46 demonstration biomes. Use /bwg createatlas to create that showcase world.

Better World Gen does not convert V1 chunks or Atlas terrain into Orbis. Keep the mod installed to load its profiles. Back up universe/ before updating the mod or Hytale, since native game content can change between game versions.

V1 terrain, ore, structure and biome additions from other mods are not automatically applied to V2. Gameplay mods must support your Hytale version. Compatibility with arbitrary modpacks is not guaranteed.

Alpha status and feedback

Earlier alpha.1 checks on Hytale 0.7.1 covered biome generation, Temple placement and persistence. They do not validate the new MMO integration, its activation workflow or alpha.3 on Hytale 0.7.2. Multiplayer, a complete survival progression playthrough and the new adapter remain unverified in game.

For bug reports, include your Hytale version, Better World Gen version, MMO version if relevant, world profile, seed, coordinates, other installed mods and the relevant server log excerpt.

Created by Hexone using Hytale's native generation system and content by Hypixel Studios. Independent community mod; not an official Hytale release.
