Description
Turn Ymmersive Melodies' instruments into a full Bard class: play any song as a rhythm minigame and buff your whole party with the result.
Required:
- Ymmersive Melodies by Conczin
Bardic Melodies is an add-on. It does nothing without Ymmersive Melodies installed.
Core Features
- Rhythm Minigame on Any Song
- Every Ymmersive song gets a note chart built from its own melody. No special songs needed. (Any new songs added work too!)
- You are locked in place (technically, you can still move, but it's micro-movements) while you play, so a Bard has to pick their moment.
- Five Difficulty Tiers
- Tier 1 is two slow lanes. Tier 5 is four fast lanes.
- Higher tiers give stronger effects.
- Crescendo Streaks (C0 to C3)
- Chain good hits to power up your buff and widen its reach.
- Miss and it fades.
- Nine Instruments, Nine Roles
- Healing, defense, offense, utility, and more. See the table below.
- Levels and Hidden Techniques
- Every instrument levels up on its own, from 1 to 20.
- Find lost Tomes to teach an instrument a second ability, including debuffs for your enemies.
- Pixel-Art Interface
- A rhythm highway with hit flashes, lane auras that glow brighter as your Crescendo grows, and a level-up banner with its own fanfare.
Getting Started
- Craft a Bard instrument at a Workbench (Tools tab).
- Hold it and right click to open the song menu. Pick any song. The menu closes by itself, and the song begins.
- Hit the falling notes with W A S D as they reach the line.
- Stay on beat to build your Crescendo. Your buff reaches everyone within about 12 blocks (a bit more at higher Crescendo).
- When the song ends, you earn XP and have the chance of leveling up.
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| W A S D | Hit the notes |
| Q | Change the song tier |
| Left click | Change the technique |
| Jump | Stop the song |
If you try to change tiers or techniques right after a song, you will be told to catch your breath. Wait a moment and try again.
Instruments
| Instrument | Role | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Lute | Healer | Allies slowly regain health while you play. |
| Flute | Mobility | Allies move faster for a while after the song ends. |
| Handpan | Defender | Allies take less damage while you play. With a Crescendo, they also resist knockback. |
| Trumpet | War Horn | Allies deal more damage while you play. |
| Bagpipe | Morale | A lasting boost to maximum health when the song ends. |
| Didgeridoo | Utility | Nearby ore shows on your screen while you play. The effects also last after the song is done being played, length depending on tier and crescendo. Rarer ores appear at higher tiers and Crescendo levels. |
| Piano | Mana | Allies regain mana while you play. |
| Vielle | Safety | Less fall damage for a long time after the song ends. |
| Tiny Drum | Stamina | Faster stamina recovery for a long time after the song ends. |
Effects that cast when the song ends build up while you play. Longer songs, higher tiers, and bigger Crescendos mean a longer-lasting buff.

Levels and Tiers
Each instrument levels separately, based on how well you play it. The song's tier sets the difficulty.
| Tier | Unlocks At | Feel |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Level 1 | Two lanes, slow and forgiving |
| 2 | Level 5 | Three lanes |
| 3 | Level 10 | All four lanes |
| 4 | Level 15 | Faster, tighter timing |
| 5 | Level 20 | Full speed |
Tomes and Hidden Techniques
Every instrument starts with one technique. Each also has a hidden one, taught by a Tome found in the world as loot. Right click a Tome to learn it, then left click with the instrument to switch techniques.
Spoiler: Tomes and what they teach
| Tome | Instrument | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Tome of Lullaby | Lute | When the song ends, nearby enemies fall asleep. The first hit wakes them but lands bonus damage. |
| Tome of Charm | Flute | When the song ends, nearby animals become your guardians. At tier 5 with a full Crescendo, the bond is permanent. |
| Tome of Tenacity | Handpan | Debuffs on allies in range wear off much sooner while you play. |
| Tome of Searing Blast | Trumpet | A piercing note burns every enemy nearby, ignoring armor. Builds up slowly. |
| Tome of Defiance | Bagpipe | Allies deal more damage the lower their health is. |
| Tome of Bewilder | Didgeridoo | When the song ends, nearby enemies turn on whatever is closest to them. |
| Tome of Lethal Strike | Piano | Allies have a chance to land critical hits for double damage. |
| Tome of Dampen | Vielle | Enemies near you deal less damage while you play. Builds up over about 10 seconds. |
| Tome of Excavation | Tiny Drum | When the song ends, you and nearby allies mine and gather faster for a long time. |
Balance: enemy debuffs need a few seconds of steady playing before they take effect, and enemies that have been put to sleep or confused become immune to it for a while afterwards.

FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need to be good at rhythm games? | No. Tier 1 uses two lanes and slow notes, and the harder tiers only unlock as you level up. |
| Does it work with songs I add to Ymmersive? | Yes. Every song gets a chart automatically. |
| Does it work in multiplayer? | Yes. Buffs go to every player in range. Some shared features, like the Didgeridoo's ore list, still need more multiplayer testing. |
| Do the normal Ymmersive instruments still work? | Yes. Bard instruments are separate items. |
| The notes feel off. | Use /bardoffset <ms>. A higher number makes notes line up later. It only changes your own timing. |
| Why do the songs vary so much in difficulty? | I wanted to leave a song's difficulty up to the player. If a song is too easy or too hard, change the song to something that fits your preference. I wanted everyone to have the freedom to choose. |
Known Issues
- Reselecting the same song you are already playing does not close the menu on its own.
- The prospect song/buff for the didgeridoo has not been tested in multiplayer yet. Please verify that the prospect window points to the nearest ores based on the direction the player themselves is facing, not the bard. Feedback welcome.
- Because the mod locks you in place (you can still move, but it's extremely minute) and uses your character micro-velocity to read note inputs, you have to have a space wide enough to play without the worry of falling off an edge. Also, with that, you can't be confined in a space, because if you hit a wall of any sort, the note will not be recognized as being hit.
- Rather than this being an issue, I kept it in the game because I thought it fit better that way, but if you get hit while playing a song, you will fail any notes that were supposed to be hit at that moment. This is actually because of what I stated above about how your character velocity is key to hitting notes properly; any kind of knockback will make you miss said notes.
Future Plans
- Honestly, I consider this mod feature complete as of now, but if anyone has any suggestions for features, please let me know in the comments or on my Discord! I would love to add a karaoke mod to the game at some point, haha.
Compatibility
Bardic Melodies has not been tested with other mods yet. This is what to expect.
| Mod Type | Expectation |
|---|---|
| Ymmersive Melodies | Required. Always needed. |
| Song packs for Ymmersive | Should work. Every song gets a chart automatically. |
| Mods that add items, blocks, mobs or worlds | Should work. Nothing here changes them. |
| Mods that change movement or player input | May conflict. While you play, the Bard is locked in place and the mod reads W A S D itself. |
| Mods that change Ymmersive's instruments or song menu | May conflict, since the Bard instruments build on them. |
| Other HUD mods | May overlap. The highway sits on the right side of the screen and the ore list at the bottom right. |
| Mods that edit loot tables | May stop Tomes from dropping if they overwrite the same tables. |
| Modded ores | The Didgeridoo's Prospect only detects vanilla ores, so modded ores will not show up. |
| Taming mods and modded animals | Charm does not need Tamework or Animal Husbandry. It only works on vanilla animals and should not conflict with taming mods, but this is untested. |
If you find a conflict, please report it with the mod name and version.
