Description

Rinual's Practice Arena

Uses a custom boot sequence to load only the bare essentials for quickly testing various mods that don't require visiting specific parts of the game. 

  • Your party will load into an arena, fully equipped with every weapon, outfit, ability, skill, and item in the game, making sure you are ready to test anything you could want from within a small arena.
  • Wind has been added at a high strength for physics experimentation. 
  • You will also have the ability to initiate a fight with a cactaur for battle testing as well.

 

Speed (at max graphics): ~ 28 seconds from booting till the arena fades in to begin testing, about 4x faster than booting the game normally

 

Though this is intended to minimize the time spent testing by modders, reverse engineers, musicians and 3d artists changing various parts of the game, it also provides a quick way to just jump into a test battle as well. 

 

There are Two versions included in the mod pack, and two optional add-ons here

  1. Rinual's Practice Arena - This is the main version
  2. Rinual's Practice Room (Lite Version) - For compatibility testing, this keeps much more of the initial boot sequence and package loads. Because the main version is 100% custom, not everything will be loaded into memory that might regularly be loaded, you can either use the addon system to load those packages yourself, or try this version and see if that helps. 

 

 

I also created an addon system for this, to allow modders to customize this more easily without needing to edit this mod at all, I've provided two examples of the system in the optional files here. However, I have also uploaded the source scripts with comments and a rough guide for those curious as a modding resource - Rinual's Practice Arena - Addon System. 

 

How it works:

When booting Rinual's Practice Arena, the player gets prompted to initiate a fight with a practice cactaur. If the player selects no, a script is loaded into the game, by default this script is empty and unused by the game.

There are two simple example addons provided.

  1. Music, Ramuh's Staff, and Ramuh VFX load in and trigger, allowing for quick VFX and music testing.
  2. Teleports the party to a looking platform that spawns in for them above the arena, this is useful for environment testing. 

An example XML is also provided already setup that you can edit easily, with comments, and provides an easier base than the vanilla temporary.xml file, more info

 

 

Care was taken to reduce how much was loaded into the game's memory to make analyzing the contents of game memory more efficient, doing so also increases the load speed, but may also increase the need to manually load normally loaded packages manually. If its important enough and you can't figure out how to load those assets with the addon system, request it in the comments with an explanation of what you are hoping to test with it. 

 

**Update 9-10-25 - 

Added some missing weapon that I had not previously found the IDs for prior. 

Added a weapons truck in the distance. This is an important asset to have load while Flagrum works out an existing bug between the mod loader and file references. Certain file references can cause unrelated assets to unload, the weapons truck is one of the most consistent indicators that this has happened. 

(Non-lite version) Added system configuration loading to the arena, allowing your normal graphics and game flags to be loaded. This should prevent people accidentally overwriting their normal system wide save data by mistake. Lite version was never affected.
