🪶 Feras Vanilla Edits: Phorusrhacidae

A bigger bird, a stronger kick, and twice the Packleaders.

Phorusrhacidae, or simply Phorus, is a larger and stronger relative of the Terror Bird designed as a straightforward combat mount, pack hunter, and flock-support creature.

Simple does not mean useless. Phorus combines powerful attacks with unique pack mechanics and the ability to keep an entire flock fighting.

⚔️ Attacks

Primary Attack - Bite

• Deals 40 base damage
• Feeding on corpses grants Argentavis-style Rapid Regeneration

Secondary Attack - Foot Kick

A powerful kick whose damage changes depending on the size of its target.

• Damage scales with Drag Weight
• Deals 50 damage against creatures around Phorus' own Drag Weight
• Can deal up to 500 damage against very small creatures
• Deals significantly less damage against extremely heavy creatures

This makes the kick especially effective for crushing smaller targets rather than fighting massive predators.

🪶 Dual Packleaders

Unlike most pack creatures, a Phorus flock can have two Packleaders at the same time.

• Highest-level male becomes the Male Packleader
• Highest-level female becomes the Female Packleader
• Regular flock members receive no additional Packleader boost
• Very large flocks can split into additional packs, allowing additional Packleaders

🍖 Feast Call

While affected by Rapid Regeneration, a Packleader can roar and share the healing effect with nearby allied running birds.

• Can only be activated while Rapid Regeneration is active
• Shares Rapid Regeneration with nearby supported creatures
• Costs 50 Stamina
• 90-second cooldown
• Male and female Packleaders can both use Feast Call

Compatible creatures include Phorus, Terror Birds, Gigantoraptors and several modded creatures like Kelenken, Anzu, Dreadbeak and Ostriches.

🥚 Taming

• Standard KO tame
• Only accepts eggs as taming food
• Rideable with its own saddle

🌍 Spawning

Phorus uses its own natural spawns and does not replace the Terror Bird or any other creature.

It can be encountered across a variety of regions, including:

• Redwoods
• Grasslands
• Scorched Earth Canyons and Badlands
• Gen1 Bog
• Extinction Medium Wastelands
• Lost Colony Caldera and Dark Forests
