Better Cosmetics

Better Cosmetics adds a greater level of character customization to ARK: Survival Ascended! Utilize our advanced configuration UI to change your skin style, color (utilizing a color-picker capable of providing any color you desire!), birthmarks, and scars. Add certain 'parts' to your character (please note, these are currently in-development and only a small number are available) as well as 'cosmetics' such as hats, glasses, and removal of the specimen implant.

Skin Customization

  • Skin Styles: Several skin styles are available, including the basic human skin and a cat-like fur skin!
  • Skin Coloring: Utilizing a full color picker, you have full control over your character's skin color. Reds, greens, blues, you name it and you can make your character can have it.
  • Eye Coloring: Choose custom colors for both inner and outer eye color, making use of a fully fledged color wheel!
  • Markings: From stripes to scars and birthmarks, you're able to choose up to 5 skin markings to further diversify your character!

Parts Customization

  • Add various 'parts' to your character!
  • Supports rotation, scaling, and repositioning of all parts!
  • Please note: While Better Cosmetics is in it's Beta, only a very limited number of parts are available.

Cosmetics Customization

  • Jewelry: Base-game glasses models are available for your use!
  • Hats: Several base-game hats are available for you to add to your character, permanently!
  • & More: Removal of the specimen implant from your arm!
  • Full Customization: Move, rotate, and rescale your cosmetics to fully suit your character!

Hair Customization

  • Head & Facial Hair Styles: Select any style from base-ARK, or any mod that adds hair. Customize the length of your hair tips, from non-existent to 2x what base-ARK allows!
  • Eyebrow Styles: Select any style from base-ARK, or any mod that adds eyebrow styles!
  • Colorization: Utilize the full color picker wheel to color your hair and eyebrows any color of the rainbow, and more!
  • Note: In order to maintain compatibility with other mods, some hair colors may show better than others.

Saving Your Customizations

  • Local Saves: Save your character's skin type, color, markings, parts/cosmetics, and hair selection locally to your computer. You can load this template at any time, on any gender character, from any server.
  • Save path: ShooterGame/Saved/SaveGames/BetterCosmetics/LocalData/
  • Templates: Create an item with a custom name, description, and icon (colorization options available!). Useful for quickly switching appearances on a single server. Note: These templates are non-transferrable cross-servers.

Configuration Options

  • Mod Menu Integration: Change your settings live in-game using Mod Menu. Simply install the mod onto your Singleplayer game or Server, log-in as admin (if applicable) and select Mod Menu from the pause menu.
  • ini Config: Config can be done via ini if Mod Menu is not present. We recommend using Mod Menu as it's quicker, more efficient, and allows for instantaneous changes. If you wish to use ini instead, ini options can be found here. Note: ini will NOT function if Mod Menu is present!
  • Admin Configuration: For highly mod-specific config options, starting in Beta v0.4 an Admin Config Menu will be available via the mirror's multiuse. This menu will allow for allow/blocklisting parts, and more in the future.
