What's new

This update introduces gold sword quest-target markers, an experimental Native Quest Learning system, improved quest difficulty indicators, and several navigation and compatibility improvements.

XenQuest continues evolving into a more intelligent, customisable questing companion for World of Warcraft: Forever.

⚔️ New — Quest Target Swords

image

Finding the right enemies for your quests is now easier than ever.

  • Added gold sword indicators above the nameplates of enemies relevant to your active quest objectives.
  • Sword markers automatically disappear when their associated objectives are completed.
  • Added adjustable marker sizing.
  • Added options to display markers above all eligible enemies or only the closest eligible enemy when distance information is available.
  • Integrated markers with the new Native Quest Learning system.
  • Improved marker handling in combat and instances.

Quest target markers are purely visual and never automatically target or interact with enemies.

🧠 New — Native Quest Learning (Experimental)

XenQuest can now learn certain quest relationships directly from information provided by the WoW Forever client.

  • Detects supported quest-related NPC information from native game tooltips.
  • Learns relationships between enemies and active quest objectives.
  • Automatically improves supported objective descriptions using learned information.
  • Saves discoveries locally for reuse across sessions.
  • Integrates learned NPC relationships with gold sword quest-target markers.
  • Avoids guessing item drop sources when reliable information is unavailable.

Example:

After:

Enable Native Learning with:

/xq learn on

Additional commands:

  • /xq learn off — Disable learning.
  • /xq learn status — View learning status.
  • /xq learn target — Inspect the current target for supported quest information.

Note: Native Learning is experimental. Discoveries are stored locally and are not currently shared between players.

🎯 Improved — Quest Difficulty & Elite Identification

  • Quest levels now follow your selected XenQuest accent theme.
  • Quest levels turn red when a quest is five or more levels above your character. image
  • Added compact (E) indicators for supported elite quests.
  • Hovering an elite quest displays a tooltip recommending a party. image

These changes make difficult and group-oriented quests easier to identify without cluttering the tracker.

🧭 Improved — Navigation

image
  • Added automatic corpse navigation when a valid corpse location is available.
  • Quest navigation resumes after resurrection.
  • Preserved the movable, isometric waypoint arrow.
  • Improved navigation handling during gameplay transitions.

🔧 Fixes & Compatibility

  • Improved protection against restricted NPC information and secret-value errors.
  • Improved quest-target marker compatibility in instances and combat.
  • Updated native tooltip diagnostics for more accurate testing.
  • Preserved existing quest tracker functionality, including:
    • Automatic zone grouping.
    • Expandable quest sections.
    • Objective progress bars.
    • Quest completion animations.
    • Quest item shortcuts.
    • Scrollable quest tracking.
    • Custom fonts and accent themes.

📦 Native-Only Quest Data

This version introduces a native-only data approach.

  • Removed bundled QuestieDB-derived datasets from the public release.
  • Preserved independently verified quest guidance.
  • Introduced local learning as a new source of quest intelligence.
  • Reduced reliance on externally sourced quest data.

Because this release does not ship a comprehensive imported NPC database, some guidance and quest-target markers become available only as XenQuest learns supported relationships during gameplay.

⚠️ Known Limitations

  • Native Learning currently focuses on supported NPC-to-quest relationships.
  • Learning from world objects, such as ground crates, is not yet supported.
  • Some quest tooltip information may be restricted by the game client.
  • Closest-only markers depend on available distance information.
  • Learned data is stored locally and is not synchronised between addon installations.

These systems will continue to evolve in future updates.
