Disable Error Speech, mute specific Sound IDs permanently, and replace the default UI error noise with custom sounds via a simple menu.

Description

MidnightMuter

MidnightMuter is a lightweight, menu-driven audio management tool designed for World of Warcraft: Midnight (12.0+).

Are you tired of hearing your character shout "I can't do that yet" every time you spam a button? Do you want to get rid of the annoying "Bonk" UI error noise, or replace it with a subtle click or chime? Is there a specific mount, trinket, or toy that makes a noise driving you crazy?

MidnightMuter solves these problems with a simple, easy-to-use configuration menu. No coding required.

Key Features

  • Silence Error Speech: One-click toggle to stop your character from vocally complaining when abilities are on cooldown or out of range.

  • Replace the "Bonk": Mute the standard red-text UI error sound (Sound ID 569772) and replace it with any sound from your SharedMedia library.

  • Targeted Sound Muting: Mute specific sound effects permanently by ID. Perfect for silencing noisy mounts (like choppers), annoying trinket procs, or repetitive combat sounds.

  • SharedMedia Support: Fully integrated with LibSharedMedia-3.0. If you have other addons (like BigWigs, WeakAuras, or SharedMedia_MyMedia) installed, you can use their sound files immediately.

  • Modern Menu: Built on the Ace3 framework for a native, clean settings panel.

User Guide & How-To

To access the configuration menu, open your Game Menu (Esc) > Options > AddOns > MidnightMuter.

1. How to Disable "I can't do that yet"

If you mash your keyboard during combat, your character likely won't stop talking to you.

  1. Open the MidnightMuter options.

  2. Under General Settings, check the box labeled Disable Error Speech.

  3. Result: Your character will now remain silent when you press buttons on cooldown, but you will still hear important dialogue from bosses or quests.

2. How to Replace the Error Sound (The "Bonk")

  1. Open the MidnightMuter options.

  2. Under Custom Error Sound, check Replace 'Bonk' Sound.

  3. Click the Select Custom Sound dropdown.

  4. Choose any sound from the list. You can preview them by clicking on them.

  5. Result: When you get a red error message (like "Target is too far away"), the game will play your chosen pleasant sound instead of the harsh default noise.

3. How to Mute Specific Annoying Sounds

This feature allows you to surgically remove specific noises from the game engine.

Step A: Find the Sound ID
To mute a sound, you need its unique ID number. The best place to find this is Wowhead.

  1. Go to Wowhead.com.

  2. Hover over Database -> Sounds.

  3. Search for the sound (e.g., "Mechanostrider", "Gunfire", "Worgen Sniff").

  4. Look at the URL of the sound page. It will look like this:
    https://www.wowhead.com/sound=12345/sound-name

  5. The number 12345 is the ID you need.

Step B: Mute it in-game

  1. Open MidnightMuter options.

  2. Scroll down to Mute Specific Sound IDs.

  3. Paste or type the number (e.g., 12345) into the Enter Sound ID to Mute box and press Enter.

  4. Result: That sound will instantly stop playing and will never play again until you unmute it.

Step C: Unmuting
If you made a mistake, simply select the ID from the "Currently Muted IDs" dropdown menu to remove the block.

4. How to use your own custom .MP3 or .OGG files

MidnightMuter uses LibSharedMedia. To add your own custom sounds (like a specific "click" or a funny noise):

  1. Download the standalone addon SharedMedia (or create a MyMedia plugin).

  2. Follow the instructions in that addon to place your .mp3 or .ogg file into your Interface folder and register it in MyMedia.lua.

  3. Once registered, your sound will automatically appear in the MidnightMuter dropdown list!

Installation & Dependencies

To run MidnightMuter, please ensure you have the following libraries installed (most users already have these via other addons, but if you are running a fresh UI, you will need them):

  1. Ace3

  2. LibSharedMedia-3.0

Install these via your addon manager (CurseForge/Wago App) if the addon does not load.
