HardestCore

Experimental
Hides your UI in the field and locks features behind a momentum system that rewards kills and drains on death.

Description

Hardestcore

The Hardcore Experience You Didn't Know You Needed

This addon is currently discontinued / abandoned

Hardestcore strips away the safety net. No nameplates. No UI in the field. No crutches. Just you, the world, and the constant threat of permadeath.

The Vision

World of Warcraft was designed to be dangerous. Somewhere along the way, we covered that danger in layers of UI elements, health bars floating over every head, and information overload that lets us play the interface instead of the game.

Hardestcore asks a simple question: What if you had to earn the right to see your own bags?

The Momentum System

At the heart of Hardestcore is Momentum—a progression system that runs parallel to your character's level. Stay active, stay alive, and you'll climb through 6 Momentum Levels, each unlocking features that most players take for granted:

Level Unlock
0 Survival mode — nothing but your wits
1 Mailbox access
2 Bags in the field
3 Character frame
4 Reserved for future development
5 Bank access
6 Death Banked — one free resurrection

Your Activity Meter fills as you play—killing mobs appropriate to your level, completing quests, winning duels, discovering new zones. But momentum is fragile:

  • Go idle? It drains.
  • Log off? It drains faster.
  • Die? Catastrophic loss.

The message is clear: Keep moving or fade away.

No Nameplates. Period.

Every nameplate in the game is forcibly disabled. This cannot be toggled. This cannot be circumvented.

Healers must watch the battlefield, not a grid of green bars. Tanks must physically see who's taking damage. DPS must pay attention to threat instead of waiting for a nameplate to turn red.

This single change transforms group play from UI management into actual teamwork.

Automatic Field Mode

Step outside a rest area and your UI vanishes. Action bars, minimap, player frame, buff bars—gone. You're left with chat (always visible for coordination) and your own two eyes.

Return to an inn or city, and everything comes back. Towns are safe havens where you can prepare. The field is where you prove yourself.

Gear Matters Differently

Wearing grey and white gear? You'll earn Momentum faster. Hardestcore rewards players who push forward with suboptimal equipment—the ones taking real risks deserve real rewards.

(Note: Zone discoveries and daily visits are excluded from gear bonuses to prevent exploitation.)

The Endgame: Banking Death

Reach Momentum Level 6 and continue building Activity to 100%. When you hit it, you don't level up again—you bank a death.

One free pass. One chance to survive the unsurvivable. Lose it, and you're back to Level 0, climbing again.

This is the loop: constant danger, meaningful progression, and the ultimate reward of a second chance—earned through hours of focused, active play.

Compatibility

Hardestcore enforces a strict addon whitelist. Currently approved:

  • Questie (because finding quests shouldn't require a wiki)
  • Deathlog (because your deaths should be remembered)

Non-whitelisted addons will trigger a warning. This isn't about gatekeeping—it's about ensuring everyone playing Hardestcore is playing the same game.

This Is Just the Beginning

Hardestcore is a framework for a different kind of WoW. Future development may include:

  • Group Momentum — shared consequences for party/raid play
  • Bounty systems — rewards for hunting players who've banked deaths
  • Seasonal challenges — limited-time modifiers that push the limits further
  • Community events — coordinated content with Hardestcore rulesets

The goal isn't to make WoW harder for the sake of difficulty. It's to make WoW matter again—where every pull is a decision, every death is a story, and every login is a commitment.

Not For Everyone

If you want to see enemy health percentages, this addon will frustrate you. If you want to AFK in the field while watching Netflix, this addon will punish you. If you want the same experience as everyone else, this addon is not for you.

But if you want to feel your heart rate spike when you pull one mob too many—knowing that your UI is gone, your banked death is your only safety net, and three hours of Momentum are on the line?

Welcome to Hardestcore.

"The field is dark and full of terrors. The inn is bright and full of excuses."
