What's new

What's Changed Since the First Release

Donald's Discernment has grown quite a bit since the original release. It started mainly as a way to spot NPCs with transmog you were missing, but I've added quite a few things since then.

Collections / NPC Scanning

  • Added support for pets, toys, recipes, and other collectible rewards in addition to transmog.

  • Friendly NPCs and vendors can now be scanned.

  • Added nameplate markers for NPCs that have something you're missing.

  • Improved target/mouseover scanning and caching.

  • Added limits for how many results are shown for one NPC.

  • Reduced repeat alerts and unnecessary rescanning.

Alerts

  • Added on-screen discovery toasts.

  • Chat, screen, and sound alerts can be enabled or disabled separately.

  • Toast duration and size can be adjusted.

  • Collection alerts and player alerts can use different sounds.

  • Added LibSharedMedia support, so sounds from compatible sound packs/addons can be used.

Player Awareness

This started as a joke and turned into an actual feature.

Donald's Discernment can now notice when another player keeps targeting you.

  • Tracks repeated targeting.

  • Adjustable number of targets before somebody is flagged.

  • Adjustable detection window and alert cooldown.

  • Can ignore people in your group.

  • Optional gear inspection for flagged players.

  • Previously flagged players can be recognized as repeat offenders.

And, of course:

DONALD WAS RIGHT

If the addon flags somebody and they later attack you, it can let you know that Donald called it.

Yes, it keeps count.

NPC Kill Tracking

The addon can now keep track of how many of a particular NPC you've killed.

  • Session kill count.

  • Lifetime kill count.

  • Tracks individual NPC/creature IDs.

  • /dd kills shows kill information.

  • /dd kills target shows the count for your current target.

  • Optional kill-count messages in chat.

History / Stats

Added some basic history and statistics for things such as:

  • Suspicious players.

  • Repeat offenders.

  • DONALD WAS RIGHT events.

  • NPC kills.

  • Collection discoveries.

Use /dd stats and /dd history to view them.

Options

The Blizzard AddOns settings page has been expanded with controls for the newer features, including player detection, repeat offenders, NPC kill tracking, sounds, alert timing, toast size, and more.

I've tried to keep most of it optional, so if you only want the original collection-scanning functionality, you don't have to use the rest.

Other Stuff

  • Various Midnight API updates.

  • Better handling of restricted/secret values.

  • Improved inspection handling.

  • More caching and cooldown logic.

  • General cleanup and bug fixes.

As always, if you find a bug or have an idea for something that would fit the addon, let me know.

At this point Donald's Discernment has basically gone from:

"Does that NPC have something I need?"

to:

"Does that NPC have something I need, and why does that rogue keep staring at me?"

All features are optional and can be turned on or off at any time.
