Paint From (existing) Photo Reference
With this mod you can craft paintings from photo references.
How the mod works:
This mod adds a new pie menu called "Paint from Photo Reference" to easels, where you will find several interactions when your sim has at least level 3 in painting skill:
- Take Photo - which lets you take a new photo no matter where you stand at that moment. The photo is taken in expensive camera quality, 100% success chance, and long zoom capability. After taking a photo sims will not automatically start to paint it. You need to use one of the following interactions.
- Large Painting from Photo Reference, only visible when a photo is available in the sim inventory or on a wall.
- Medium Painting from Photo Reference, only visible when a photo (landscape format) is available in the sim inventory or on a wall.
- Small Painting from Photo Reference, only visible when a photo (landscape format) is available in the sim inventory or on a wall.
After choosing a photo to use as reference I technically transfer the photo texture to the canvas. This would replace the "blank" look of the canvas in the beginning with the photo texture until the next painting progress loot happens. To prevent that I cheat the progress when I transfer the photo texture so it starts at the next painting progress right away, which means you will not see the blank canvas at the beginning like with the normal "Paint From Reference" feature. I added a setting (see below) which blocks my progress loot so you can see "the finished painting" as a preview feature if you want.
Since texture sizes of photos and original paintings from reference are different it might not look 1:1 like the original paintings from reference. See this picture as an example of the photo references and the finished paintings.
Preview Setting
I added an extra shift click cheat setting (testingcheats enabled) to easels where you can enable (disable) the preview setting described above for chosen sims incl. the actor sim. This can help to see if the finished painting will look like you want.

Set Filters on Paintings by Reference
This mod lets you set filters on my paintings from photo references incl. the "Painting" filter.
Important to know
There is still an in-game bug going on where the game deletes custom textures used by photos, paintings from reference etc. which can affect the mod paintings as well. The game devs are aware and trying to fix that. Keeping a copy of the photos, paintings etc. as a backup might help.
