Flowline
Fast, configurable item, fluid and energy pipes, with smart filters and curved pipes built in.
Flowline is a pipe mod that is simple to place and deep when you need it. Connect a pipe to a chest, tank or machine, mark the side you want to pull from, and Flowline does the rest. Every side gets its own screen with filters, priorities, regulators and upgrades.
Pipes
- Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe: connect to each other and to any block that stores the matching resource.
- Universal Pipe: moves items, fluids and energy at once. Each side can turn each channel on or off.
- Chemical Pipe (with Mekanism): moves gases, infuse types, pigments and slurries, with its own filters.
One recipe makes 8 pipes (3 for the Universal Pipe).
Each pipe is a glass duct with coloured rails on its corners, and each kind has its own colour. Pipes draw no effects or animations, so they cost nothing beyond their block model. Prefer solid pipes? Enable the built-in Flowline: Solid Pipes resource pack.
Curved pipes
The same pipe items also lay curved lines, no other mod needed. Hold a pipe in your off hand, switch to Curved with the mode key (B by default) and right-click to start a line, add points and finish it. A ghost tube previews the curve and shows how many pipes it costs.
- Every pipe type can be curved, and lines bend, branch and join.
- A curved line is part of the network it touches: one Extract side drives the whole network, curves included.
- A curved end on a chest, tank or machine is a normal pipe side, with the same screen, wrench, Filter Card and upgrades.
- Grid modes, free placement and an option wheel (Remove, Branch, Extend, Move, Force joint) for editing.
- Curved pipes behave like blocks: you can stand on them, break them like a block (their pipes drop in survival), and dye them.
How it works
- Every side starts as Insert. Sneak + right-click with the Flowline Wrench to switch a side to Extract or disconnect it.
- Right-click a side with anything in hand to open its settings, like a chest.
- Wrenches from other mods (Create, Mekanism, Thermal…) work too.
Extract sides: redstone mode (including Pulse), distribution, redstone output, filter, upgrades, Keep ≥ (always leave this much in the source) and an FE/t limit for energy.
Insert sides: priority, insert filter, Max ≤ (never fill the target above this) and Overflow (only gets what other targets could not take, like a spare chest).
Distribution modes: Nearest, Farthest, Round Robin, Random, Balanced, Priority.
Filters that actually understand your items
Each side has 9 rules (9 more per Filter upgrade). A rule can match:
- an item or fluid
- tags (any of them / all of them)
- NBT data (contains / exact)
- a whole mod (
@create) - a name pattern (regex, renamed items included)
- a durability range (e.g. nearly broken tools)
- a per-rule amount limit
Rules can Allow or Block. The rule editor shows in plain words what each rule does, and if a sample item doesn't match, it tells you which condition failed. Shift-click items from your inventory, or drag them in from JEI / EMI.
Upgrades & tools
- Speed, Stack, Filter upgrades, plus Knozy (all three in one). Six slots per side.
- Filter Card: copy a side's filter rules and paste them on another side.
- Dyes: pipes of different colours never connect, so you can run separate lines side by side.
- Pipes can be waterlogged.
Build for Me
Hold a pipe in your off hand and look at a block up to 32 blocks away. Flowline previews a route back to you as ghost pipes, going around obstacles with as few turns as possible, and tells you how many pipes you need. Right-click to lay it. Protection mods are respected, and in survival the pipes come out of your off-hand stack.
Light on your server
Pipes that touch share one cached network. Each Extract side speeds up while it's moving things and backs off when there's nothing to do. Sides with no target at all sleep until something changes, and pipes are staggered so they don't all run on the same tick. Each side's screen shows what it is doing: Working, Asleep, Waiting, Stuck or Idle.
Integrations (all optional)
- JEI / EMI: drag items and fluids into filters and the rule editor; short how-to pages for the pipes and tools
- Jade, The One Probe, WTHIT: side mode, distribution, pacing, priority and regulator at a glance
- Mekanism: Chemical Pipe and chemical filters
- Patchouli: an in-game guide book (English and Turkish), crafted with a book and an item pipe
- KubeJS / data packs: the
flowline:no_connectblock tag stops pipes connecting to chosen blocks
Config
Server settings are per world and synced to clients. In single player you can edit them in game from Mods → Flowline → Config, no restart needed. Transfer amounts, upgrade multipliers, pacing and Build for Me range are all configurable.
Default amounts per operation, before Stack upgrades: 32 items, 2000 mB of fluid, 3000 mB of chemicals, 16000 FE/t. With Stack upgrades: up to 2048 items, 128 buckets of fluid, 192 buckets of chemicals and 16,384,000 FE/t.
Server and clients need the same Flowline version.
