BlockByte Exchange

Build a mining farm, keep it powered and cool, and sell what it earns on a living in-game market.

What it is

BlockByte Exchange is a tech and economy mod. You build mining rigs that earn BlockByte (BBY), wire them to a Mining Controller, feed them power and keep them cool, then sell your BBY for BlockCash (BCE) at an Exchange Terminal. Spend your BCE on better rigs, upgrades and research, take on daily jobs, or team up with friends in a co-op.

BBY and BCE are made-up game money. Nothing in this mod touches real money or real networks.

Screens are mostly pictures, the first hour is short and guided, and nothing is posted in chat unless you ask for it.

Your first mine

You only need iron, copper, redstone, glass panes and a furnace.

1. Craft Data Cables and a Mining Controller.
2. Put a Tier 1 Byte Miner next to the controller, or link it with cable.
3. Give it power: a Basic Generator with coal, a Solar Panel or a Wind Turbine.
4. Connect an Exchange Terminal and sell your BBY.

Every player gets a handbook on first join. Its first page shows the four crafting grids you need, and a small tracker in the corner shows your next step until you are done.

Mining rigs

• Four tiers, from 2.5 MH/s at 40 W up to 300 MH/s at 2500 W. Tier 1 is crafted, Tiers 2 to 4 are bought with BBY.
• Rigs get hot. Water, ice, packed ice and blue ice next to them cool them, and cold rigs run faster.
• Hot rigs boil the water next to them and scald anyone standing in it.
• Rigs wear down and slow below 50% condition. Service kits and Thermal Gel fix them.
• Five upgrade modules: Overclock, Efficiency, Cryo Cooling, Hash Optimizer and Reliability.

Power

• Free power first: Solar Panels by day, Wind Turbines day and night (higher up and stormier is better).
• Then Basic Generators (any furnace fuel), then Battery Cabinets, then the paid grid.
• Generators only burn fuel when something needs the power. Spare power fills the batteries.
• An unpaid grid bill becomes a debt, and the farm earns nothing until it is paid.

See it at a glance

• Look at a machine to see how it is doing, right under the crosshair: watts for panels and turbines, temperature and condition for rigs, the status of a controller, running and fuel time for a generator, charge for a battery, and pressing or parts ready for a Chip Press.
• The Mining Controller shows one big status ("Mining", "No power", "No miners") with the fix underneath, what it earns and costs per hour, and a power bar.
• Find miners, under More on the controller, lights up every rig on that network for a few seconds: green is mining, amber is hot or worn, red is not mining.

Chip Press

• Stamps quartz into Silicon Wafers, copper into Blank PCBs and unpressed chips into finished ASIC chips.
• Runs on coal, charcoal, redstone, their blocks or lava buckets. Hoppers can feed it and empty it.

The Exchange

Use an Exchange Terminal, or carry a Hardware Wallet to trade from anywhere. Eight tabs:

• Market: the BBY price with 1H, 1D and 1W candle charts, a big Sell button, market events and a news ticker. Set a sell order and your BBY is sold for you when the price gets there.
• Shop: 95 items in 8 categories with a cart. Sell mode lists only what you carry, and All sells the lot. Buying pushes a price up, selling pushes it down, and prices settle back over time.
• Power: where your farm's power comes from, with BBY per hour and the grid bill.
• Tech: 18 research upgrades bought with Engineering XP.
• Jobs: new supply orders every in-game day from 15 companies.
• Bank: print BCE notes or send BCE to a player.
• Top: leaderboards for net worth, BBY mined, hashrate and contracts.
• Co-op: invite friends, set the payout split and manage the shared wallet.

Progression

• Earn Engineering XP by mining, trading and finishing jobs.
• Every 1000 network blocks the mining reward halves and the BBY price jumps.
• Random market events: bull runs, crashes, chip shortages and energy crises.
• Block finds now and then pay out 10 minutes of output at once.
• Advancements, and a Golden Rig trophy for the rich.

Playing with friends

• Everyone mines on their own. Machines belong to whoever placed them, and touching cables never merge two players' farms.
• Start a co-op from the Co-op tab or with /blockbyte coop invite <player>. Members share machines, research, power bills and payouts. Personal wallets stay separate.
• The owner picks the split (equal, by hashrate or all to the shared wallet) and can remove members right from the Co-op tab.
• Roles decide what members can do, and you choose who may use your machines: only you, your co-op, or anyone may look.

Requirements and install

• Minecraft 26.3 with Java 25.
• Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer and Fabric API.
• NeoForge: 26.3.0.83 or newer.
• Install it on the server and on every client.

Commands and config

• /blockbyte (or /bby) shows your balances and the market. /blockbyte pay, withdraw and coop ... do what the terminal does.
• Operators: /blockbyte admin give, event, blockfind and reload.
• The P key opens your Hardware Wallet if you carry one, otherwise the handbook.
• Server settings are in config/blockbyte.json (prices, mining speed, power, contracts, co-ops and more). /blockbyte admin reload applies changes.

FAQ

Is this real crypto? No. BBY and BCE only exist in your world.

Will it spam my chat? No. Market news stays in the terminal. Players who never use BlockByte see nothing.

Do my worlds carry over? Yes. Worlds, balances and machines from 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 load as they are. Worlds from Minecraft 1.21.11 are upgraded by the game the first time you open them.

Can I put it in my modpack? Yes, in any free modpack that downloads it from this page.
