Description
About
GregTech Solar Expansion expands the solar energy branch of GTCEu Modern with a structured multi-tier progression from LV to ZPM.
Solar Panels do not simply generate a fixed amount of energy. Their actual production depends on environmental conditions such as sky access, time of day, weather, biome, and dimension.
The built-in GUI makes the system transparent: you can see stored energy, current generation, panel integrity, actual EU/t and amperage delivered to the network, as well as a detailed breakdown of every factor affecting production.
The mod is designed to fit naturally into GregTech progression while providing extensive configuration options for both regular players and modpack creators.

- Integration with GTCEu harvesting rules
Configuration
GregTech Solar Expansion includes a built-in configuration screen:
Mods -> GregTech Solar Expansion -> Config
You can configure:
- General solar generation conditions
- Individual settings for every Solar Panel tier from LV to ZPM
- Base and Overdrive output amperage for every tier
- Biome generation multipliers and overrides
- Generation multipliers for:
- Overworld
- Nether
- End
- Custom dimension overrides
- Identifiers from other mods and datapacks
Configuration changes are applied without restarting the world.
In multiplayer, gameplay configuration is server-authoritative:
- Operators can edit gameplay settings
- Other players automatically receive the current server settings in read-only mode
This allows solar progression and balance to be adjusted for individual worlds and modpacks without modifying the mod itself.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.4.0
- GTCEu Modern 7.4.x or 7.5.x
Tested and verified on:
Minecraft 1.20.1 + Forge 47.4.0 + GTCEu Modern 7.5.x
Development Status
GregTech Solar Expansion is still in active development.
Planned future development includes:
- Functional upgrade modules
- Solar Panel degradation and Integrity mechanics
- Further recipe and balance adjustments
- Additional solar-related content
The current module slots, Integrity system, generation calculations, and configuration system provide the foundation for these mechanics.

0.2.3
Release note
- Version 0.2.2 was skipped; all changes prepared for it are included in 0.2.3.
Added
- Built-in mod configuration screen available through
Mods -> GregTech Solar Expansion -> Config. - Server-authoritative configuration editing and synchronization:
- Operators can change gameplay settings in multiplayer.
- Other players receive the current server settings in read-only mode.
- Editors for general generation conditions, per-tier panel settings from LV to ZPM, biome overrides, and dimension overrides, including identifiers from other mods and datapacks.
- Validation, Apply, Cancel, and Reset to Defaults controls for in-game configuration.
- Separate configurable Base and Overdrive output amperage for every panel tier.
- The selected output mode is stored independently for each Solar Panel and controls actual energy transfer.
- Configurable generation multipliers for the Overworld, Nether, End, and custom dimensions.
Changed
- Configuration changes now take effect without restarting the world.
- Generation caches are refreshed automatically when configuration changes.
- Stored energy is clamped when buffer capacity is reduced.
- Generation now safely combines sky, time, weather, biome, dimension, module, and integrity multipliers, including bonuses above 100%.
- Solar Panels now follow GTCEu harvesting rules and its
requireGTToolsForBlockssetting:- Wrench only by default.
- Wrench or Pickaxe when the setting is disabled.
- Updated textures for Solar Panels, Solar Cells, and Photoactive Layers.
- Updated the HV Photoactive Layer recipe:
- Fine Naquadah Wire replaced with Fine Niobium-Titanium Wire.
- Gallium Arsenide Plates replaced with Ultimet Plates.
Fixed
- Fixed generation bonuses above 100% being ignored.
- Fixed displayed combined percentages disagreeing with configured generation factors after integer EU/t rounding.
- Improved dimension status reporting when generation is disabled by a non-positive multiplier or blocked by the sky-access check.
Localization
- Added Russian and English text for the configuration screen, validation messages, Base/Overdrive modes, and dimension generation status.
0.2.1
Fixed
- Solar Panel assembler recipes now correctly accept one of two soldering fluids through the
#gt_solar:solar_solderingfluid tag:gtceu:tingtceu:soldering_alloy
- Fixed mod version substitution in
META-INF/mods.toml:- Switched from
${file.jarVersion}to${mod_version}. - Added
processResourcesexpansion inbuild.gradle.
- Switched from
Added
- New fluid tag file:
data/gt_solar/tags/fluids/solar_soldering.json.
