Tharidia: Easy Diet
Eat well, play better. Easy Diet adds a light nutrition system to Minecraft: every food feeds one or more food groups, and a balanced diet gives you small bonuses while neglecting a group slowly costs you. It works with modded foods out of the box, with no config needed.
Beta. The mod is stable and in use on the Tharidia server, but balance may still change between versions. Feedback is very welcome on our Discord.
How it works
Your diet has six groups: Grains, Proteins, Vegetables, Fruits, Sugars and Hydration.
- Eat. Each food adds to the groups it belongs to. A steak is protein, bread is grain, a beef stew is protein and vegetables, a pumpkin pie is a bit of everything.
- Stay active. Your levels go down as you burn hunger (running, mining, fighting), not while you stand idle or the game is paused.
- Keep the balance. Above 75% a group gives a bonus. Below 25% it gives a penalty.
New players start at 50%, so nothing changes until you start favouring one kind of food.
Bonuses and penalties (default preset)
| Group | Below 25% | Above 75% |
|---|---|---|
| Grains | -15% mining speed | +10% mining speed |
| Proteins | -2 hearts, -10% attack damage | +1 heart |
| Vegetables | -2 armor | +2 armor |
| Fruits | -5% movement speed | +5% movement speed |
| Sugars | -10% attack speed | +5% attack speed |
| Hydration | -10% movement speed | longer breath underwater |
Bonuses are small attribute modifiers, not permanent potion effects. Speed, Haste, Poison and every other effect from potions, beacons or other mods keep working normally.
Features
- Works with any food mod. Food values are worked out automatically from what a food is made of: its recipes, its tags and its name, scaled by how filling it is. Farmer's Delight, Brewin' and Chewin' and other food mods are covered without extra files.
- Hydration that makes sense. Water bottles, juices, soups, fruit and vegetables all hydrate. Watery foods hydrate more than dry ones.
- Plays nice with thirst mods. Hydration switches itself off when Thirst Was Taken, Tough As Nails, Legendary Survival Overhaul, Homeostatic, Survive or Dehydration is installed. You can also turn it off yourself.
- Eat to balance. You can keep eating with a full hunger bar to top up a group you are missing.
- Clear feedback. Food tooltips show what you will get, and a diet panel (the button above your inventory) shows each group with markers where penalties and bonuses start. Hover a bar to see what it does.
- Fully configurable. A simple config file for the main switches, and datapacks for every number: food values, decay, caps, thresholds and the bonuses themselves.
- Two presets. BALANCED (default) for normal play, and THARIDIA, the original rules of the Tharidia server with time based decay and potion effects.
Supported versions
NeoForge only, one file per Minecraft version:
1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3.
All versions have the same features. Install it on both the server and the client.
Configuration
Config file
config/tharidia_easydiet-common.toml (tharidia_easydiet-local.toml on Minecraft 26.3 and later):
preset:BALANCED(default) orTHARIDIA.hydration:AUTO(default, off when a thirst mod is installed),ENABLEDorDISABLED.allowEatingWhenFull: eat with a full hunger bar to top up your diet (defaulttrue).
Datapacks
Everything else is set in datapack files at data/<namespace>/diet_config/<name>.json. A file only needs
the values it changes. A full reference with every value of the active preset is written to
config/tharidia_easydiet/diet_config_reference.json each time the game loads.
To fix a modded food without writing numbers, add it to one of the mod's item tags:
tharidia_easydiet:grain, protein, vegetable, fruit, sugar, drink, or no_diet to exclude it.
Commands
/easydiet item: values of the food in your hand.- For operators:
/easydiet check [player],reset [player],recalculate,explain <item>(shows how a food was classified) anddump(writes every food value toeasydiet_values.csv).
The same commands also work as /tharidia diet ....
About the Tharidia Project
Tharidia is a medieval fantasy roleplay server for Minecraft with its own mods and mechanics built for immersive roleplay. Easy Diet started as part of Tharidia Things, the server's main mod, and is now released on its own so any pack or server can use it.
