Description

Illagers & the Crimson Altar — Guide

Version: Reign of Nether v1.2.3a · Minecraft Java: 1.20.1


MUST READ

  • This map is heavily driven by datapacks. In the late game there will be many units and heavy performance load. Reduce graphics settings if needed.
  • Before starting a new run, execute /function rouge:reload and /rts-hard-reset several times.

Spawn & TC Placement

  • Spawn location: (150, 60, 150).
  • Do NOT place the TC anywhere else.

Recommended Settings

  • Population Cap: 200
  • Beacon Victory: 20 min
  • Heroes: Enabled
  • Difficulty: 9 min/wave or 6 min/wave

Core Game Mechanics

Sacrifices & the Altar

  • Every wave (including wave 0), the Altar spawns 3 sacrifices.
  • Their effects appear in chat.
  • Kill the corresponding Villager to select.
  • The 4th slot spawns a special Llama for refreshing sacrifices (starts with 6 refreshes).
  • Refreshing increases Anger by 1.

Anger (Bossbar)

  • Shown permanently at the top of the screen.
  • Starts at 2.
  • Each +1 Anger = +10% Special Wave chance.
  • Wave 5 naturally adds +4 Anger.
  • At Anger = 10, a special event occurs.

Special Waves

  • Based on Anger, a normal wave can be replaced.
  • Enemies gain special bonuses (shown via titles).
  • Special Waves grant an additional sacrifice choice.
  • The refresh Llama becomes a special Llama that reduces Anger by 2 when killed.

Negative Collectibles

  • At wave 0, 2 are selected.
  • They activate at wave 3 and 8.
  • Names appear on actionbar and turn red when active.

Negative Collectible Pool

  • Fragility: Friendly max HP –30%
  • Weakness: Friendly melee damage –60%
  • Pollution: Permanent Slime infection
  • Bleeding: First hit applies Wither III (20s)
  • Fatty: Enemy max HP +50%
  • Keratosis: Enemies gain +8 Armor

> Slimes ignore Fatty. Air Strike and Crowded removed.


Llama Camps & Couriers

Llama Camps may appear across the map and can be captured by players or enemies.
Move units into the camp’s area to accumulate capture progress, shown in the sidebar.
At 1000 capture, the camp becomes yours. Enemy presence reduces your progress.

Capture Rewards — Llama Couriers

If you control at least 1 camp, each wave spawns a Llama Courier at your base.
The courier travels to one of the map’s four corners; reaching the destination grants rewards:

  • 1 camp: 100f / 100w / 250o
  • 2 camps: 200f / 200w / 500o
  • 3 camps: 300f / 300w / 750o + Refresh 1 sacrifice
  • 4 camps: 400f / 400w / 1000o + Refresh 1 sacrifice

Slabstone

Slabstone is the key to unlocking the map’s three endings.

Tier I Slabstone

All negative collectibles become cursed:

  • Fragility: -50% max HP to allies
  • Weakness: -90% melee damage to allies
  • Pollution: Allies are permanently slimed; -30% max HP
  • Bleeding: First hit inflicts 20s Wither IV
  • Fatty: Enemies gain +100% max HP
  • Keratosis: Enemies gain +12 armor, +6 toughness

Tier II Slabstone

  • Beacon victory disabled
  • A Boss spawns at your base
  • Defeating it unlocks the third ending

Tier III Slabstone

Unlocks the collectible Redemption:

  • Allies gain +20% HP
  • Each unused “Refresh Sacrifice” chance grants an extra +20% HP

Endings

Ending I — Beacon Victory

Win normally by surviving until beacon completion.

Ending II — The Path of Wrath

When anger reaches maximum:

  • A special llama appears in the extra reward pool
  • Kill it to trigger Ending II
  • After beacon victory, an extra special wave starts
  • Defeat it to earn the second ending

Ending III — Redemption’s End

Triggered by Tier II Slabstone:

  • Fight and defeat the special Boss
  • Achieve the true final victory


Troubleshooting

  • UI or logic malfunction / upgrades not triggering → Run /reload and /rts-hard-reset several times before starting a new game.
  • Heroes cannot be constructed → Delete ./<world>/data/saved-herounit-data.dat and reload the world.
  • Performance issues → Lower render distance, particles, clouds, shaders; avoid running alongside other heavy datapacks.

Tips

  • Manage Anger wisely: refreshing sacrifices with llamas is strong, but increases the chance of Special Waves. Use special-wave bonus choices to reduce Anger when needed.
  • Plan around Round 3 and Round 8 — when Negative Collectibles activate.
  • Utilize Llama Camps and Llama Messenger bonuses for huge economic boosts.
  • Slabstone offers powerful benefits but comes with major risks — choose activation timing carefully.

Sacrifice / Upgrade List

  1. Food Support (ID 1, Gold)

    • Spawns foodcount Beehives at the altar. Positive effect: Anger -2.
  2. Ore Support (ID 2, Gold)

    • Spawns orecount Diamond Ore Veins at the altar. Cost: Anger +2.
  3. Mass Fitness (ID 3, Aqua, Max Lv 3)

    • Economic units gain +50% / +75% / +100% Max HP.
    • Grants Speed II → Haste II → Resistance I + Strength I in order.
    • At Lv 3, Militia also benefit.
    • Current Level: #fitness level.
  4. Family Planning (ID 4, Aqua)

    • Instantly grants villagercount Villagers of your faction.
  5. Skeleton Guard (ID 5, Red)

    • Grants skeletoncount Armored Skeleton Soldiers (Iron Armor + Iron Sword).
  6. Echoing Warden (ID 6, Red)

    • Grants wardencount Echo Wardens
      (0 attack, lower HP, high resistance, faster movement).
  7. Scatter Tank (ID 7, Red)

    • Grants tankcount Pillager Ravager Artillery
      (higher HP, faster movement, faster attack speed).
  8. Yamato Battleship (ID 8, Red)

    • Grants shipcount Heavy Ghasts
      (high firepower; each carries a Firework Scatter‑Crossbow Pillager).
  9. Terrorist (ID 9, Red)

    • Grants creepercount Empowered Creepers
      (more HP, faster movement; 250 AoE explosion damage in radius 15 — beware friendly fire!).
  10. Heroic Inspiration (ID 10, Dark Green, Max Lv 4)

    • Friendly Hero units heal nearby allies within 10/15/20/25 blocks for
      0.5 / 0.75 / 1 / 1.5 HP per second.
    • Effect doubles on Large Units (Max HP ≥ 100).
    • Current Level: #regeneration level.
  11. Head-On Shock (ID 11, Dark Green, Max Lv 4)

    • Enemies are stunned 10/15/20/25s the first time they take damage.
    • At Lv 3+, also applies Wither III for the same duration.
    • Current Level: #stun level.
  12. Nether Artisan (ID 12, Dark Green, Max Lv 4)

    • All friendly Military Units gain Armor Piercing.
    • Gear upgrades per level:
      • Lv1: Gold Leggings
      • Lv2: +Gold Helmet & Boots
      • Lv3: Full Iron
      • Lv4: Full Diamond
      • If Piglin faction → Lv4 upgrades to Netherite
    • Current Level: #armor level.
  13. Vulnerability (ID 13, Dark Green, Max Lv 4)

    • Enemies take +1 / +1.5 / +2 / +2.5 extra damage.
    • At Lv 4, Large Units take additional +0.5.
    • Current Level: #vulnerability level.
  14. Mass Population (ID 14, Aqua, Max Lv 4)

    • Population Cap increases to 225 / 250 / 275 / 300.
    • Current Level: #population level.
  15. Disciplined Training (ID 15, Dark Green, Max Lv 4)

    • Friendly T0/T1 Melee Units (Infantry, Iron Golems, Hoglins, Spiders) gain
      +50% / +100% / +150% / +200% attack damage.
    • At Lv 3+, Monster faction gains Resistance I additionally.
    • Current Level: #train level.
  16. Slabstone (ID 16, Purple, Max Lv 3)

    • Lv1: All Negative Collectibles become cursed versions (stronger).
    • Lv2: Unlocks alternate ending (disables Beacon Victory; summons a Boss).
    • Lv3: Grants Positive Collectible “Redemption” (HP bonus; see main text).
    • Current Level: #slabstone level.
