Explore an island with lush vegetation, a Japanese and medieval city, and mysterious ruins

Description

Flamingo Island 🏝️

Introduction

Flamingo Island was originally created for a special event — Flamingo Island Season 2 organized by Darkheaven.
Now that the event has ended, the map is public and free to use, allowing players to adapt it for personal projects, explore it out of interest for the Dawn of Time project, and discover the many buildings filled with custom blocks.

You can explore it in Creative mode, survive in Survival, or adapt it for server-based projects, multiplayer events, and build exhibitions.

Overview

Flamingo Island is not compatible with vanilla Minecraft — all major structures rely on custom blocks from Dawn of Time and other dependencies.

The world is composed of 7 distinct islands:

  • A Japanese-inspired city centered around a gigantic castle inspired by the Himeji
  • A Medieval city dominated by a massive cathedral
  • Four outer islands surrounding the main cities, each filled with dense vegetation, huts, cabins, ruins, and small villages
  • Turtle Island, a special location that served as the final gathering point during the original event

The two main city islands are connected by bridges, creating a unified centerpiece for the entire map.

Intended Gameplay

Flamingo Island is designed for fast-paced, exploration-driven gameplay with both PvP and PvE elements.
It was originally built for a competitive multiplayer event, and its layout encourages encounters, exploration, and progression through increasingly challenging areas.

Main gameplay principles:

  • Equal starting conditions — Each of the four spawn islands contains the same amount of loot, ensuring all teams begin with equal resources.
  • Progressive difficulty — As players travel from their spawn island to the main city islands, they will encounter stronger custom mobs, including enemies equipped with Armor of the Ages gear.
Loot becomes more valuable but also more dangerous to obtain.
  • Path-oriented exploration — The map is designed as a connected network of roads linking all major areas. All significant resources, structures, and encounters are located along these paths.
There is nothing to find outside of the designed routes, making navigation straightforward and action-focused.
  • Circular island flow — The map’s layout naturally leads players into encounters, as all paths eventually connect in a large loop around the main islands.
  • Custom resource distribution — There is no vanilla ore generation underground. All resources are placed in surface locations, structures, or in custom-built mines.
  • Strategic mines — Each spawn island contains a mine, plus there are two massive mines connecting different parts of the map:
    • North-East Mine — Rich in valuable loot and resources.
    • South-West Mine — Another high-reward, high-risk location connecting key zones.

Available Versions

Version 1.16.5 — Original Event & Survival Version

This is the original version of Flamingo Island, it contains the full intended gameplay experience, with all structures, resources, mobs, and event mechanics in place.

When players first join the map, they will spawn in the starting area.
Pressing the main button will teleport everyone to a preparation hall, where they can choose their team.

Each of the four team buttons assigns players to one of the four spawn islands, clears their inventory, applies regeneration, and sets their personal spawn point on the chosen island.

From there, teams can begin exploring, gathering loot, and making their way toward the central islands — encountering progressively stronger enemies and richer loot along the way.

Version 1.20.1 — Decorative Showcase Version

A lighter, Creative-only adaptation of the original map.
This version is intended purely for exploration and architectural showcasing of the Dawn of Time mod.

Due to changes in Minecraft’s block IDs between 1.16.5 and 1.20.1 (notably the removal of certain blocks from the Vanilla Backport mod, such as moss), some decorative elements are missing.
As a result, the survival gameplay is not functional in this version.

It is ideal for:

  • Exploring the map without survival constraints
  • Taking screenshots or recording videos
  • Viewing the architecture of Dawn of Time in a recent Minecraft version
