Better Fire has been reworked!
• Fire texture 1 is hardcoded to be used for 1st person fire & on entities. To work with this limitation, shave off the bottom quarter of all frames & move the remaining texture down while also making them half translucent. Makes it lower & easier to see through for the sake of 1st person view
• Fire texture 0 is hardcoded to be used on entities, but is stretched by varying amounts. For non-crouching players on fire, the most prominent use of this texture is the lowest of three occurrences on the body, where the texture is stretched to about 18.8 pixels tall. To match this particular case, make frames for the 32x resolution texture 38 pixels tall (19 * 2) where the top 6 rows are empty, such that after the game stretches the texture, pixels do not look as rectangular
• Improve all fire block template models themselves to not stretch the fire texture from 16 to 22.4 pixels & remove the game's weird rotation-based rescale factor, rather than the previous method of making the texture work around the model (didn't know these models could be changed via resource pack). In particular, the centre part of ground fire has received a more consistent look, and it as well as fire under blocks now have their blades no longer only visible from one side
• As the 2 normal fire textures have been specially edited in different ways to account for hardcoded in-game usage, make the fire block models point to different, newly named fire textures which don't normally exist in vanilla. These ones are the usual 32x height without any shaving or translucency. For consistency, this has also been applied to soul fire block models
• Now that in-game fire is not as tall as it used to be, the Faithful fire textures I've been editing off look very sluggish. Remove every other frame in each animation to make fire look faster everywhere. Could not simply reduce frame display time as each frame was already showing for the shortest possible time of 1 tick
• Fire models no longer specify unused particles. And btw turns out it isn't that soul fire has one texture/model specific to soul sand and the other to soul soil like I thought in an earlier fix, they are just randomly used whenever soul fire is present
For posterity, here is the original showcase image that is now no longer in this pack's curseforge description:
