Description
Welcome to the VIS Complete Pack!
This is a mod pack I put together for myself and my friends to play through. I put my favourite mods and a few other cool ones I found along the way from other packs and browsing CurseForge. It draws inspiration from various Technic packs and is designed to have a lot of content for maximum playtime, ranging from early game to late game. It features primarily Tech and Science mods, but also adds Magic and a few dimension mods for a wider choice of playstyle and to go beyond the regular Vanilla dimensions.
The pack is designed to cater to as many different playstyles as possible.
- Do you like to play simple and just build? There are a handful of decoration and furniture mods available, and also Forestry for bees!
- Prefer magic over the technology and science meta? There's Thaumcraft, ProjectE (Equivalent Exchange), Mystcraft, and additional Magic bees in Forestry
- Like reaching difficult content and want something to strive for? Draconic Evolution provides a lot of challenging and endgame content to strive for
- Like exploring new Dimensions? Visit the Moon, Mars, Venus, and Asteroids with Galacticraft, the Twilight Forest, and also an infinite number of different pocket dimensions with Dimensional doors!
- Enjoy the classics? IndustrialCraft, Buildcraft, Mekanism, Tinker's Construct, Thermal Expansion, just to name a few
Server
Server software is available and runs on a bone-stock Vanilla Forge server. Run using the start.bat file, and change the RAM allocation as you need. 2GB is recommended, and any more is even better. Any less than 2GB RAM allocated can lead to instability.
No server mods (e.g. Essentials) have been added, but there is the option to do so - simply add to the /mods folder in the Server folder.
Note - the large amount of console output (info, warn, error) as the server is starting up is harmless and nothing to worry about. This cannot be disabled, and is simply a symptom of all of the mods loading together in a mod environment on server software.
Due to CurseForge policy, I cannot distribute .bat files with the server. To start the server, you can do this one of two ways:
- Double-click the forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2854.jar to start the server, not the minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar.
- (Recommended) create a .bat file called start.bat with the following text:
@echo off
java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2854.jar nogui
PAUSE
-
- You can increase the -Xmx flag to allocate more RAM to the server (in Megabytes), although going below 2GB (2,048MB) is not recommended as the server may lead to instabilities. This method is recommended over double-clicking the .jar file as this allows you to allocate as much or little RAM as you would like and utilizes the cleaner command-line window over the vanilla server window.
Development
This pack may see little updates or revisions to its version unless there is a bug or issue that needs to be fixed. This is not due to negligence or oversight - this is because I believe all of the mods that I want in the pack are already present, and no more need to be added. If I do add or remove any more, I will update the version of the pack with the relevant changes.
I have a fairly busy schedule due to real-life, so I may not be able to reply straight away but I will do my best to do so. If I am unable to work on the pack or respond to issues, I will post an update letting everyone know I am currently unavailable so there is no uncertainty.
I may develop a texture pack for this mod pack and compile textures from Sphax PureBDCraft, but this is not currently my priority. If I do so, I will post the relevant files here.
Issues and Bugs
I am aware of the Minions mod currently generating a lot of errors while interacting with minions and general usage. I am currently investigating and seeking to fix this issue, and will post any updates.
Tips and Suggestions
Please note - a load time of a few minutes (or more or less, depending on your system) is normal every time the mod pack is launched. This is due to the way Forge works and the way modern Minecraft works. I have done as much as I can on my end to minimize this, but I cannot eliminate it entirely.
- The minimum amount required for the pack to run is 4GB - any less than 4GB can lead to running out of memory and client crashes.
- If you find that you're getting freezes every few seconds, this could be your allocated memory maxing out. You can monitor this by pressing F3 and viewing what % of memory is being used (right hand side in F3 menu). Ideally, the memory usage should not frequently exceed 90%. If you want to allocate more memory, this can be done on the Twitch launcher on the mod pack's profile by pressing the gear icon in the top right corner, pressing 'Profile Options', unchecking 'Use System Memory Settings', and moving the slider until it displays at least 4,096 MB. You can allocate more RAM if desired, but anything greater than 7-8GB can actually cause occasional lag spikes - this is due to the way Java's garbage collection works.
- OptiFine (not included due to licensing) is recommended to boost performance and add shaders if needed. Do not enable the 'Fast Render' option as this produces known bugs and a black screen.
- The best way to reduce lag is to lower the render distance - 8 chunks should still provide a good experience while improving performance a decent amount. If you still experience issues, refer to the tips below.
- Keybinds have been purposefully not changed or assigned to leave you, the player, to change them to however suits you best. There are currently conflicting keybinds, so make sure to change these. There is a mod, Controlling, installed which has been added to help you do this - you can search for individual commands and also view any conflicting keybinds so you can resolve them.
- If you find the Ambient Sounds too loud or too quiet, you can adjust the volume for individual sounds or turn them off completely in the Mod Options menu, and then AmbientSounds3.
- If you want to tweak the details of grass and trees, the Better Foliage menu can be accessed by pressing F8.
- If you experience heavy lag when viewing Portals with the portal gun, rendering live images can be disabled in the config file /config/portalgun.cfg
- If you see a prompt to update VanillaFix on the mod pack's profile in the Twitch launcher, do not do this! The latest version of VanillaFix causes the pack to crash, so an older version has been used to resolve this issue. When a newer version is released that is okay for this pack, it will be released in a future pack update.
