Mod Additions:

Hardcore Spelunking added and configured!

Mod Removals:
Void Island Control removed, nether:overworld ratio is now no longer 1:1

Gameplay Changes:

"Stone" type blocks reverted to their default hardness levels! Starting the game is no longer pain!

Hardcore Spelunking adds "Hyperdense" versions of stone and netherrack to discourage branch-mining instead.

Fixes:

The quest book is no longer in edit mode. (Was it? I dunno.)
Lost Souls mobs haunting the Lost Cities should no longer spawn with the dislocation effect. Hillarious, but useless.
