A Lightweight Client for The Block Academy Multiplayer — same server, fewer mods, lower requirements: The Block Academy

TBA-Lite is a stripped-down variant of the The Block Academy modpack for players who might have resource constraints or just want a slimmer version. It removes 42 heavy visual, utility, and recording mods while keeping all gameplay content and full server compatibility. A 90 KB stub mod handles network protocol compatibility so TBA-Lite players and full TBA players share the same world seamlessly.

🪶 What Makes It Lite?

42 mods removed — no visual fluff, no recording tools, no heavy UI overlays:

• Visual effects gone: Sound Physics, AmbientSounds, Presence Footsteps, Particle Rain, Falling Leaves, Visuality, Cool Rain, Camera Overhaul, Blur+, 3D Skin Layers, and more
• Utility mods gone: REI, WTHIT, Litematica, Mod Menu, Mouse Wheelie, ItemSwapper, Status Effect Bars
• Recording gone: ReplayMod, Stable Cam, First Person Model, Not Enough Animations, Auto HUD
• 2 shaders removed: Complementary Reimagined, Photon (BSL + Solas remain)
• Custom mods replaced: StreamCraft, SynthCraft, SceneCraft, and Core Curriculum swapped for a tiny compatibility stub

What you lose: Fancy particles, ambient sounds, recipe browsing, schematics, recording tools, video streaming, AI music, cinematic exports, and build submissions.

What you keep: Everything that matters for gameplay.

🔌 How Server Compatibility Works

TBA's custom mods (StreamCraft, SynthCraft, SceneCraft, Core Curriculum) register 34 network payload types. Without them, Fabric rejects the connection. TBA-Lite includes tba-lite-stubs — a ~90 KB mod that registers all 34 payload types with no-op handlers and provides the StreamCraft display block so existing builds render correctly. Full TBA players and TBA-Lite players connect to the same server with zero issues.
