so you start by doing magic stuff, and the more you progress through the game, the more technologies you unlock. for example, you start your survival game, and only have access to a few basic spells, but as you progress more and more, you find out that the world contains more than those basic spells, and you start to create your own spells thanks to ars nouveau.
