String Theory is a modpack about being lost and trying to get back home.

Description

Please note, this is not an easy pack. It is not meant to be easy. It is designed to give you a real challenge. If you don't like playing difficult modpacks then this is probably not the pack for you.

Please feel free to leave comments, questions and suggestions. I want to know what everyone thinks. The more everyone contributes the better the pack can become.

You are an inventor and you have figured out a way to travel to new dimensions. However on your first trial run your dimensional travel device overloaded and broke. Now you are stuck and have to find a way to repair it. You must travel from world to world collecting resources in order to rebuild your workshop, repair your device and find a way back home. Some places will be easy, others brutally hard, but the more you risk the greater the rewards.

I want this modpack to be a pack that puts new life back into Minecraft and provides extended play. I want vets to have a real challenge without the threat of just constant death from mobs or what have you. I also wanted to try my best to avoid many of the main stream mods that you see in every pack, with the exception of a few that I could not find suitable replacements for. So you will not see Thermal Expansion, Ender IO, Botania or any of those super popular mods. (They are great mods and I am a big fan of them all, but you just see them in every pack and I wanted something different.) For tech mods this was not to difficult to do, magic mods on the other hand were much more challenging so I limited them to 2 of the harder ones. As for the tech mods I tried to find ones with lower download counts that seemed to be well balanced, provided a challenge, new ways of thinking and were over all just fun to play with.

I created custom dimensions along with custom items, custom ore and completely reworked all ore generation. I have also reworked recipes and created new recipes for new items. I used the progression mod to limit some things and help you advance. But in a way that is different from the normal use of the Hardcore Quest mod book that is seen in many popular packs. You know what you need to get in order to obtain what you want but you are not told how to get there or directed in a path. This is intended to keep that sandbox feel to Minecraft that we all know and love without the whole "OK whats my next quest so I can advance and get my next item/reward" thing. This is your story and adventure, you figure out how to get the things you want.

This pack is currently in Alpha and is a shadow of what I hope it becomes one day. But the core is there, it is playable and ready for testing.

Here are a few examples of ore generation in the pack.
