The grey has vanished, leaving you in a place where nature has been replaced by rotting tissue. You are closer than ever from hell... You have reached the heart of the Black Roots. The ground is no longer dirt, but a tapestry of pulsing flesh and roots. Listen. the trees are breathing. The darkness is alive and hungry, and the creature is finally here. Survive the nightmare, or let the roots consume you.

👁️ THE PREMISE

Black Roots is an organic nightmare of flesh and guilt. The Grey Fog has cleared, only to reveal that you are inside something alive. This level adds to the paranoia of being watched the visceral terror of being consumed. The roots have replaced the earth. It feels like walking on meat. The forest is waiting to swallow the despairing souls lost in it...

We’ve designed this experience to feel like an analog horror experience, where the atmosphere is unbearable and the audio feels like a chorus of screams. Survival is no longer the goal; the only thing left is to witness IT before the roots devour you (before night 66). Take ONE picture of the boiled one and the whole truth will be revealed...

⏳ THE CHALLENGE: PHASE 3

To progress to the different ends you only have to take one picture :

• The boiled one : Locate it and get close enough (not too close...).
• The picture: Use the instant camera to get the perfect shot.
• Night 66: If you fail to do so before night 66 you'll sink into despair and your spirit and flesh will belong to the demons of this forest...

📖 A BURIED NARRATIVE

Everything ends here, in a blank void. You are no longer following a friend; you are wearing his failure... Maybe you'll meet him up there, if the demons dont claim your soul before.

Your Journey from the grey fog to the black roots : You don't start with nothing. Your starting gear contains :

• Desperate Etchings : A tattered piece of paper covered in blood and the word GUILT repeated until the ink ran dry. It is your final testimony, a man who realized too late that the darkness wasn't empty.
• Covered in flesh : The flesh of those you killed covers you and it protects you
• The camera: Prepared for one last flash... You need that one photo of IT to prove the darkness isn't empty...
• Survival Tools for hell :
  
  • The Last Light: A Single Lantern. Your only protection against the encroaching darkness.
  • A flare gun: To pierce the darkness when it is too thick (limited...)
  • An album: If you want to make a bestiary and collect all the monster's photographs
  • A broken cross
• Your friends backpack containing the following :
  
  • The haunted flesh, blood and heart of the creatures you killed in the grey fog
  • Your knife, now broken
  • Butcher tools : To devour your prey
