My brother hasn't played Minecraft in a while, and there's a lot of cool new stuff since he last played.
However he lamented that things have changed so much and he feels like he has to start learning everything all over again, so I've taken the last modpack I remember playing with him (Direwolf20's 1.5.2 modpack) and attempted to build a modern 1.10.2 pack
The config files are heavily inspired by the customizations the FTB team did for the original pack.
