Description
Welcome, Hunter, to Slop Shooter 3000, one of the weirdest projects I have ever worked on. While it's currently just a demo, I'm looking to improve and alter the pack even further in future.
Y'know those sloppy horror mods that everybody makes fun of? Where they just kinda chase you down and one-shot you? Well, I have a confession to make. One of my favorite ways to play this game is to download a bunch of them, add in tacz, and figure out ways to cheese them. It's a really unique experience, and one that I wanted to make more accessible with this pack!
The general gameplay is a fusion of terraria, looter-shooter, and building mob farms. One of the key elements is "containment blocks", which are special blocks unique to each of the different prey. You can use them to build special farming chambers, giving you many additional resources.
Other general features:
- Loads of custom structures! Every one has some kind of important purpose, either for gameplay or the general vibe of the pack. Nothing's just been "thrown in." (I assure you the walmarts and dollar generals are key to the early game). Plus many of the structures have custom NPCS too!
- Fully custom spawning! Most vanilla monsters won't spawn naturally, letting you focus on the more interesting prey the pack gives you. The mobs that do spawn have highly tweaked spawn rates and locations, making every structure and biome far more important.
- Custom worldgen! Honestly I just got really sick of forests. Most of the world is now badlands, plains, or desert, with some rare biomes being the home of special creatures. Caves are nice and big, letting you gain resources quickly... if you can survive getting swarmed by dwellers, of course.
- - All the slop has been tweaked, to either be way less obnoxious or only spawn in special areas. Also, I've made literally all of them shut up, plus you can muffle them even more in-game. Your eardrums will thank me.
- Weapons tree! Go from like, a cruddy handgun to a crazy laser annihilation monstrosity. My shotgun calls me stud muffin!
- Cool armor! With special effects!
- Parkour!
- Cars!
- Lore! Kinda! I'm working on it!
- Stupidly optimized! Seriously, this whole thing was made on a macbook air. It'll run just fine on your GigaMonster 80000. Enabling shaders can be a bit performance heavy, and some of the areas are laggier than others.
Anyways, I know the core concept of the pack is Very Out There, but I've come to love this pack dearly and have put a metric crapload of effort into it. It's weird, it's silly, it's shockingly atmospheric sometimes, and I look forward to getting to make it even better in the future. And if all you want to do is look and laugh at the weirdo screenshots, well that makes me happy too.
Currently, this pack represents the beta stage of the first one-third to half of the pack. If you have suggestions, bug reports, or just general feedback, you can use the form below:

Performance/Configuration guide:
The pack should will run well out of zip. However, it's also on potato setting by default, including 30 FPS and aggressive entity culling, which may impact your enjoyment. The settings that are easiest to change without affecting gameplay are:
- Entity culling: can be increased quite a bit, or even turned off outside of certain areas. Also, having it active may mess with sandworms -- requires more testing
- FPS: obviously, should be raised to a comfortable level.
- "betterfpsdist", by SomeAddon: can make caves render funny
- Neat: adds hp bars, you could easily disable it without much difference to the gameplay
- Shaders: Slop shooter has its own built-in shaders, though you can easily enable and disable them to taste. They don't run very well on Mac, however.
- Some people have had ram issues. Somewhere between 3 and 8GB should do it, however.
With that said, DO NOT:
- Add a hardcore darkness mod, or a shader with that feature. You will get jumped.
- Preload chunks: Incompatible with roadweaver, sadly. May change as the mod updates.
- Alter resource packs (too much): Might ruin the vibe. Or not. Just make sure hunterassets is above anything that adds splash texts. Consider it in the "here there be dragons" territory.
First update is live! The "lack of shark" update adds a bunch of features that I've had in the back of my mind, but wanted feedback on before launching. Trailer/devlog below:
I'll continue to upload snapshots, sneak peeks, and tutorials through that youtube channel, so please check it out if you're interested!
FAQ:
Q: Bird muncher, I suck at this game. How do I beat xyz mob without just cheesing it?
A: Yeah, I sure hope you can't! These mobs were meant to be cheesed, with no holds barred. I've removed the least fun means of cheese (boats, rails), so you can go all out. In fact, you absolutely should.
Q: Mrs Muncher, how do cars work?
A: While you should definitely play around, here's a basic video guide by our mutual friend the scarlet hunter:
Wow! Thanks, Mr Scarlet Hunter!
Q: Honorable Muncher of Birds, why doesn't Siren Head drop anything?
A: I gotta be so real with you: I added him as a lategame threat that you weren't supposed to beat in the demo. You people are cracked, and I love it. Please lmk what the setup is, I still haven't even beat him yet.
Q: Dearest Bird, the hitboxes are all screwed up.
A: I know. I'm sorry. There's not a ton I can do about it, BUT if anybody knows a way to edit the hitboxes of mobs through an outside mod, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. If it's too annoying I suggest using F3+T, though be warned it does make you a lot more accurate and a lot more killy.
Q: Bird, you absolute moron. XYZ quest doesn't work. Also if you try to walk sideways there's a chain explosion and your world corrupts.
Please let me know when this happens. Its gonna happen a lot, and I'm sorry. As far I can tell, mcreator was programmed on post-it notes and prayers, which has compounded with my own complete lack of programming skill to result in a codebase resembling less an actual modpack and more a vaguely sentient blob of technical debt and suffering. I'm trying to untangle a lot of it, please bear with me in the meantime.
P.S. : if your mod did end up as one of the "slop" enemies, please don't take it as an offense. I love all of these mods dearly, and I think they're all quite fun.
