🌙 Realms & Runes

ㅤ This project started as a personal modpack I made to play with a few close friends. We wanted something magical, immersive, and full of classic RPG charm — and so Realms & Runes was born. It’s a fantasy adventure modpack centered around exploration, boss fights, light progression, and a world that rewards curiosity. Whether you're venturing into deep forests, delving into dark dungeons, or just building up your homestead, there's always something to uncover. The modpack was designed to be lightweight and well-optimized, so it runs smoothly even with a large number of mods. But don’t let that simplicity fool you — the world can be dangerous, especially if you’re bold. Players who venture far from home, explore at night, or chase after early loot might find themselves in for a real challenge. On the other hand, players who focus more on building a home and settling in will find the experience a little gentler — not without danger, but less punishing. I tried to create a balance that lets you choose your pace, with no overcomplicated systems.

Thanks for giving it a shot!

✨ A Cohesive Fantasy Experience

One of the main goals behind this modpack was to create a world that truly feels coherent. In many large packs I’ve played, the mix of futuristic systems with medieval or magical themes often breaks immersion. Instead of that scattered feel, I wanted a setting where everything - from the creatures lurking in the dark to the tools you craft at your homestead - reinforces a unified fantasy identity.

Realms & Runes was built by carefully selecting mods that complement one another, both mechanically and thematically. You’ll find powerful bosses, challenging night-time encounters, diverse enemy types, and plenty of progression paths in equipment, spells, and weapons. But none of these exist in isolation. The systems overlap just enough to let you experiment: you can specialise in heavy armour, master spellcasting, or find hybrid builds that suit your playstyle. There isn’t a single “correct” combination of attributes - the fun lies in discovering what fits you.

⚖️ Balanced Progression, Meaningful Choices

Another common issue in large modpacks is imbalance. Often a single mod ends up overshadowing all others, either because its items are far easier to obtain or simply far stronger than the rest. This leads to content bloat: hundreds of items and mechanics that players never touch because one or two options outclass everything else.

To avoid this, I focused heavily on balance and progression flow. Early-game equipment is accessible without being trivial, mid-game upgrades feel earned, and late-game gear doesn’t invalidate the entire journey. No armour set or weapon line dominates the rest. Instead, each one has a place — and a purpose. The result is an RPG-like environment where you choose equipment based on strategy, not because a wiki told you what’s objectively “best”.

🛠️ Play Your Role

Realms & Runes also embraces different player archetypes. You can take the path of a blacksmith, forging your own gear from the ground up; become an enchanter weaving runes and magical enhancements into your equipment; or follow a more mystical route, learning spells to defend yourself in battle. Each style is viable, and more importantly, they work well together.

This design really came to life when I played the modpack with friends. Our group naturally formed a small society with real interdependence - not because of forced roles, but because the systems made it rewarding to specialise. The smith, the mage, the warrior… each contributed something essential to the group’s progress, turning cooperation into a meaningful part of the adventure rather than a simple convenience.
