Improved early game survival with:

new hatchet, sieve, and flint knife recipes

merged flint knives from farmer's delight and flint tools

plant fiber drops with the use of any knife on grass and ferns, at the same rate as seeds do

Meteorites will now strike and deposit minerals not commonly found near spawn.

Vanilla explosions are greatly buffed.

Items on the ground will now despawn after 5 minutes

On top of updates to current mods, a fair number of new ones have been added. This is focused on smaller content additions that improve the client-side experience (sounds, markers, tooltips), expand building blocks, and improve existing mod performance.
