Description
Mythical Chaotica is a Forge 1.21.1 modpack created by the MvL (Myths Vs Legends) Team, for a modded SMP built around Dungeons and Dragons inspired fantasy adventure and roleplay.
It’s inspired by D&D campaigns and uses many mods to accomplish this feel; however, we know new mods are always coming out, old ones get updates, and some get retired--so we do our best to make sure this pack is up-to-date, working (obviously :P ), and feels like you stepped into a real fantasy world with quests and exploration.
The pack heavily expands the in-game world generation using mods like Biomes O’ Plenty, Regions Unexplored, Mystic Biomes, and others, alongside major dimension overhauls such as Nullscape. These new landscapes are varied, possibly hostile, but for sure a DM's level of strangeness, with exploration and questing acting as the main drivers of player progression. Furthermore, several additional dimensions are included, such as Afterdark, Dive into the Abyss, and The Heaven Dimension (with plans to include more later on). These locations can be both high-risk--meant to be approached with sure-fire preparation, gear, and intentions--but also high reward with new loot, armor, and much more. These are recommended to be explored a bit later when you've gotten some gear, dipped your toes in some of the available quests, and died to at least one boss (lols). We hoped it would feel similar to a party D&D parties late-campaign locations, but also still have the option for checking out casual travel destinations like new cities, islands, and structures inspired by magic, realism, and obviously fantasy.
Continuing, structures play a major role in shaping how players will interact with the game's D&D-inspired world. We've included expanded village types from creators like ALDgamer, Lupin, and Skniro,--along with ruins, dungeons, cities, and fantasy-styled landmarks, from creators like Hoponopono, HardWater, and BaffledBanana87, to hopefully create frequent points of interest and conflicts (if you're playing multiplayer). Which brings us to how said conflicts could arise--Magic and quests are introduced to this modpack, inspired by those we found similar to ones in tabletop systems rather than standard skill trees. We looked at several mods before deciding on ones like Primal Magick, Knight Quest, and Corail Tombstone; which introduced paths close to D&D classes like the caster classes of Sorcerer/Cleric/Warlock/Wizard and the more hands-on combat like Fighter/Paladin/Rogue. We hoped this would make it seem more like a TTRPG with risks and consequences that rewarded planning and punished carelessness.
Also, to make the mobs feel like they came from a D&D compendium, we made sure to add lots of creature variety, significantly expanded through mods like the Animal Garden series, Living Things, Monster Plus, Colored Slimes, and many others. This builds well with our quality-of-life mods, such as Xaero’s World Map, Waystones, Dynamic Lights, Anvil Never Too Expensive, and JEI, which were added to include support for long SMP style sessions without removing challenges; however, they also allow for player progression that feels straight out of fantasy novels and games like Skyrim or Harvestella.
But because we're D&D nerds, we couldn't take the chance and miss out on roleplay and character identity. Mods such as Just Sit!, Simple Emotes, Doggy Talents Next, and Skin Layers 3D, add support for player-on-player/player-on-entity interactions, expressions, and overall storytelling. And we can't just leave it to the world generation to tell the story, so we had to add furniture mods like Macaw’s and PTS-Deco, alongside expanded food systems including Cooking for Blockheads, Travel Friendly Food, and Spooky Jams. Nerds have to nerd :P
Overall, Mythical Chaotica was built to feel like stepping into a D&D Campaign and designed for multiplayer use to tell stories with friends, make enemies, and have a good time. It’s built by a D&D and Gaming group from players who wanted Minecraft to be an adventure, and handed as a gift to you, to go on and tell your own tales that are just as fun.
