Description

Hi there! I'm Inkwise, and this is the Homesteads modpack.
Version 0.5.0 is in the works!

Play as an explorer who has left their homeland for the new world's greener (and deadlier) pastures. Build your homestead to survive changing seasons and export your goods to fund the growth of your settlement. A brave new world awaits you!
Homesteads is a late-alpha modpack built around farming and building with an intuitive economy, narrative quests (to be added), and a host of QOL mods. The aim is to provide a curated experience that differs from the standard kitchen sink modpack and its questlines. There's a long path ahead of Homesteads, but I hope future updates will make Homesteads a unique, aesthetic, and balanced game.

Intuitive Economy
Homestead's economy is carefully calculated based on the process, abundance, value, difficulty, and material cost of each item. The goal is to provide prices that feel real while also making each export worthwhile. Exports allow players to create their own industries for produce, minerals, or even cake! Imports provide the player with building materials to turn their homestead into their own colony. Currently, all imports and exports are available to players. In future updates, players will complete quest lines to unlock additional ways to earn and spend money.
Seasons & Survival
Changing seasons bring the need for new crops. Crops that are out of season can wither and die, leaving your yields lacking. Thirst and energy requirements mean you must sustain a working homestead with fresh water and limit your ability to create massive farms. If you want to become the next corn tycoon, consider working with other players, winning over the locals, or building an industrial colony.
Build A Settlement, Start A Family, Or Do Both
Villagers have been totally replaced (courtesy of Minecraft Comes Alive!). Now, you can interact with villagers to make friends, gain the community's trust, or even start a family. If winning over the locals isn't your cup of tea, you can start your own colony to bring citizens from your homeland to the new world and build an industrial empire (thanks to Minecolonies)!
Multiplayer Friendly
Homesteads is happy to feature The Essential Mod to help players connect with their friends. Joining it is a host of QOL mods to allow for a lively coop experience. Additional multiplayer content is planned for future updates.
Homesteads is still in alpha. Here is what you can expect in future updates!
There are three major overhauls left before the modpack is ready to enter beta status. While each version I upload in alpha is stable, I cannot promise that the updates will not impact your world. Please back up your world and check the change log to see if the update poses a threat to your builds. Updating willy-nilly while the project is in alpha could result in deleted builds, missing livestock/crops, or worse. Once the project reaches the beta version, there will be much less risk when updating.
- (DONE 8/26/23)
v0.4.0 - The Content Overhaul:Also known as "Inkwise learned how to use Crafttweaker." This update included major changes to the mod list and gameplay in the modpack itself. Check out the change log to learn more. - v0.5.0 - The Animals and Crops Overhaul: The animal overhaul will primarily focus on removing duplicate animals and crops and tweaking spawn/mob drop rules. Serene Seasons now uses data packs to add crop seasonality, which means crop seasonality may be implemented in v0.7.0 instead of this update.
- v0.6.0 - The Crafting Overhaul: In v0.6.0, some recipes will be rebalanced, and compatibility between mods will be patched. I also plan on overhauling where some items can be crafted so that not everything is made at the crafting table. For example, most furniture items will be moved to one of the woodworking or carpentry tables.
- v0.7.0 - The Datapack Overhaul: This is the last planned overhaul before the modpack officially enters beta. Since I've never made a data pack before, I've made the decision to do it all at once. This overhaul will affect recipes, names, appearances, villager trades, etc.
- Early Beta Release: The launch of the early beta release will focus on introducing the long-promised narrative quests. This will include introducing new NPC characters, updates to the import section, and (most importantly) quest lines.
I'd love to use community feedback for future updates. Here is what I need most.
- Import/Export Items: If you'd like to see certain items added to the import/export system, please let me know!
- Recipe Changes: Help balance recipes by identifying too-easy or too-difficult recipes in the modpack.
- Economy Balancing: This is my first game formula. While it's allowed me to create a price system that I am proud of, it still needs a lot of polishing. I would love feedback on any price (or quantity) changes you believe necessary for items in the import/export.
