Data Center in the Sky 1.3.2
What's new
Data Center in the Sky 1.3.2
The Data Center mod moves from 1.6.9 to 1.6.10. The mod list is otherwise unchanged. An existing world updates in place - nothing has to be rebuilt.
This is a fix release, and two of the four fixes matter to anyone who mines.
Mining is a contest again
Every machine used to work out its share of a chain against the historical network alone. Two things followed from that, and both were wrong: players were invisible to one another, and your own machines did not dilute each other either. Ten rigs each claimed the same share, so a site could be paid ten times the entire chain's emission. Measured on the public server before the fix: a single rig at 211 MH/s against a 7.16 MH/s network, share 0.967 - one machine taking 97% of everything Bitcoin produced.
Every machine now reports into one census per algorithm and divides by the same total. The shares of everyone mining a chain add up to at most one.
A coin's cap is a real ceiling
Nothing counted what had actually been mined, so a busy server could be paid past 21 million BTC without anyone noticing. A world ledger now books every mined coin and refuses the overshoot - 21,000,000 BTC, 84,000,000 LTC, 28,704,026,601 KAS, 18,400,000 XMR. ETH, DOGE and XCH have no cap, exactly as in reality. Buying at the Trading Terminal moves coins that already exist and is not counted against the cap.
When a chain has nothing left, the game says so instead of quietly paying nothing.
The technician does his job
Two faults reported from play:
- He walked in circles. The room scan is a cheap test and said "work here" where the work then could not be done - the clearest case being a room already at maximum cooling, where he wanted a fan one step higher than the fan can go, for ever. A fan at its stop is no longer a job; the room needs another fan. He also remembers a machine he could not deliver at and leaves it alone for a minute, so an unaffordable part no longer occupies him, and he says so rather than looping in silence.
- He could not reach a rack above floor level. He always tried to stand at the machine's own height, which for a wall-mounted rack is a cell nobody can stand in. He now stands on the floor and reaches up to two blocks, exactly as you do without jumping - so a three-block wall is serviceable from the floor. Anything higher wants a floor in front of it, for him as much as for you.
