What's new
Astralbound 1.0 — Beyond the Threshold
Changes since Astralbound 0.9.9 — Matter & Magic
Astralbound 1.0 expands the practical side of the sandbox with better storage, transport, building and automation, then adds dinosaurs, new dimensional travel, more things watching from the darkness, and a private vault somewhere outside ordinary reality.
This release contains 266 mods, eight shader packs and one resource pack.
EXISTING WORLDS
Back up your world before updating. A new world is recommended to experience the changed content together. Mods have been added and removed, so existing saves may lose removed-mod blocks, items or other content. Do not assume that items or infestations from the original Grey Goo mod will automatically convert to Grey Goo Redux.
STORAGE, TRANSPORT & AUTOMATION
New tools make it easier to connect the sprawling collection of machines, farms and inventories introduced in earlier releases.
- Tom's Simple Storage Mod adds searchable access to connected inventories through a storage terminal.
- Pipez adds item, fluid and energy transport. Pipez Lag Fix reduces repeated failed insertion attempts against blocked or full destinations.
- Ender Storage adds linked, color-coded item and fluid storage for moving resources between distant locations.
- Flux Networks adds wireless power distribution.
- Modular Routers adds configurable item handling and automation using modules and upgrades.
- Mob Grinding Utils adds equipment for mob farms, drop collection and experience handling.
- Trash Cans adds dedicated disposal options for unwanted items, fluids and energy.
- Create: Steam 'n' Rails expands Create's railway and train-building options.
BUILDING & EVERYDAY CONVENIENCE
- Chipped adds a large selection of decorative block variants and specialist workbenches.
- FramedBlocks adds customizable building shapes that can take on the appearance of other blocks.
- Macaw's Bridges expands bridge construction and decorative crossing options.
- Carry On lets players pick up and relocate supported containers and other eligible blocks.
- Crafting Tweaks adds convenient controls for rotating, balancing and clearing crafting grids.
- Polymorph lets players choose between conflicting recipe outputs when multiple recipes use the same ingredients.
- Athena and CodeChicken Lib join the supporting libraries for the new content.
PREHISTORIC LIFE, DIMENSIONAL TRAVEL & NEW ENCOUNTERS
- Jurassic Reborn adds prehistoric creatures and a fossil-and-genetics progression for bringing ancient life into the modern world.
- TARDIS Refined adds a TARDIS that players can grow, customize and use for travel between dimensions, complete with its own interior.
- ROARING adds Deltarune-inspired content, including the Roaring Knight encounter, Dark Fountains and its own Dark World content.
MORE COMPANY IN THE DARK
- From The Fog adds Herobrine-style sightings and unsettling encounters.
- The Midnight Lurker adds another stalking threat to exploration.
- SCP-096, The Shy Guy adds an encounter where looking at the wrong face can become a very serious problem.
- Horror Elements expands the available horror scenery and decorations.
GREY GOO REDUX
Grey Goo Redux replaces Kaupenjoe's All-Consuming Grey Goo in the pack. The included 0.5.4 release expands the idea into ten distinct Goo types, ranging from destructive outbreaks to restoration, construction, companions and dimensional travel.
- Grey Goo consumes terrain, threatens non-player creatures and destroys loose drops. Void Goo can spread through solids, fluids and open air, producing a different kind of infestation.
- Prismatic Goo hunts other dangerous Goo and removes itself when its work is finished. It can also destroy Predator eyes, so place cleanup Goo with care around companions.
- Water Goo and Lava Goo drain connected bodies of their respective fluids. They hold back immediate refilling while consuming the fluid, then expire when their work is done.
- Aetherial Goo creates four owner-linked guardian swarms that follow across dimensions and provide health, hunger, air, equipment and supported mana assistance. Their emergency rescue from lethal damage consumes all four swarms.
- Extraplanar Goo constructs a Broken Cosmic Ring for travel to random dimensions and distant locations. Gateways can remain open for return trips, with landing checks, platforms and terrain restoration when dismantled.
- Terra Goo records and gradually restores terrain across a three-by-three-chunk area. Builds placed in space that was originally empty are preserved; a wooden shovel removes the restoration Goo.
- Hearth Goo grows structures block by block. Choose from 30 designs, including cottages, larger homes, a mountain castle and an underwater station, or let the seed choose randomly.
- Predator Goo creates an owner-linked red eye that patrols, prioritizes threats and attacks through a line-of-sight beam. It also collects eligible nearby loot into private storage and delivers experience to its owner.
A reusable Goo Selector cycles through eight Goo types with sneak + right-click. Hearth and Predator retain their own seeds and special controls. Starter access is provided through the ender chest, including one-time selector and Predator seed delivery for existing players.
Hearth construction includes a five-minute undo window within the same play session. Reloading can resume construction, but does not preserve its undo record. Clear valuable loose items and untamed creatures from the construction area before building; they may be removed from the footprint.
NEGATIVE SPACE
Predator Goo also opens the way to a private pocket vault.
- Sneak + right-click with the Predator seed to turn the eye into a persistent crimson gateway. Recalling it restores displaced terrain and returns the companion. Combat and automatic collection pause while the gateway is active.
- The gateway leads to Negative Space: a black chamber with a crimson doorway, fractured floor scars and a singularity above its central pedestal.
- The singularity provides 1,080 storage slots across twenty pages, with whole-vault sorting and All/Similar deposit and withdrawal controls. Transfers leave equipped armor and the offhand untouched.
- Stored items persist through gateway closure, world reloads and chamber rebuilding. The chamber repairs its fixed layout while loaded; new construction inside it is restricted.
- Animated television static surrounds the chamber. Rare crimson apparitions and quiet echoes add atmosphere without attacks, collision or drops.
- An original eerie soundtrack plays inside Negative Space, follows the Music volume setting and stops when you leave.
- Players can tunnel out and fly around the exterior. Falling far below the chamber sends the player toward an installed void or limbo destination before void damage begins, with the Nether as a fallback. Landing checks can provide a small obsidian platform where needed.
- Creatures and many projectile or vehicle items are restricted inside the vault. Aetherial and Predator companions pause there and resume when the player leaves.
GOO RELIABILITY & CLEANUP
The included build also brings several corrections to these systems:
- Safer portal arrivals, persistent return routes and cooldown handling reduce unsafe landings and immediate portal bounce-backs.
- Hearth construction includes fixes for completion failures, schematic compatibility, retained structure details, settling and debris cleanup. Temporary loaded chunks are released when construction finishes.
- Water and Lava Goo consume fluid bodies without simply displacing them and allowing immediate refilling.
- Prismatic hunters can continue relocating at their population limit instead of freezing in place.
- Population monitoring and administrator cleanup tools provide ways to inspect and manage active infestations.
SHADERS
Hysteria Shaders and Solas Shader have been added, bringing the included selection from six shader packs to eight. Players can choose which shader to enable in their video settings.
REMOVALS & EXPORT CLEANUP
- Removed Kaupenjoe's All-Consuming Grey Goo from the pack in favor of Grey Goo Redux.
- Removed Skyfall: Meteorites after profiling identified substantial background entity-processing cost. Falling Meteors Reimagined remains included.
- Removed Singularity Rifts.
- Cleaned the distributed overrides of personal session data, diagnostic history and obsolete configuration remnants.
Astralbound's factories can now move more resources, its builders have more options, and its explorers have several new ways to end up somewhere deeply inconvenient. If a red eye offers to look after your belongings, the storage capacity is excellent. The surroundings are less reassuring.
