Zombies Break Doors

Hiding behind a door used to mean safety.
Not anymore.

Zombies Break Doors is a Forge mod that significantly enhances zombie AI by allowing zombies to break common player-made barriers and now even climb ladders to reach players. Wooden doors, glass walls, and vertical escapes are no longer reliable defenses - zombies will exploit weak base design and pursue players relentlessly.

The mod is fully configurable, highly modpack-friendly, and compatible with both vanilla and modded content.

All zombies can break wooden doors

  • Works on any difficulty
  • Supports modded doors, including 3-block-high doors such as Dramatic Doors.

Iron doors can be broken (configurable)

Glass blocks & glass panes can be destroyed (configurable)

  • Supports modded glass via Forge tags
  • Glass barriers are cleared properly for passage (1×2)

Zombies can see through glass

  • Players are detected through glass blocks
  • Leads to intentional and targeted glass-breaking behavior

Trapdoors can be destroyed (configurable)

  • Wooden, iron, and modded trapdoors supported
  • Trapdoor-based “fake doors” are no longer safe

Zombies can climb ladders (new in v1.5.0)

  • Zombies can climb ladders and other climbable blocks upward to reach players
  • Uses vanilla-style movement (no teleporting, no cheating)
  • Fully configurable via can_climb_ladders

Vanilla-style block breaking animation

  • Visible cracking effect for all door-parts
  • Zombies stop, focus, and break barriers over time

🧠 Smarter Zombie Behavior

  • Zombies actively hunt players once detected
  • Glass no longer blocks line of sight
  • Doors, trapdoors, and glass buy time - not safety
  • Iron doors delay zombies, but do not stop them permanently

Base design now matters.

All features are configurable via a Forge COMMON config:

  • Enable/disable specific block breaking
  • Configure break times
  • Toggle ladder climbing
