Xiaoxiang Sects Expanded: 1.0.103 → 1.0.120

Everything since 1.0.102, grouped by feature. The version each change arrived in is shown as (1.0.xxx).

Install 1.0.120 on both client and server. The network changed several times in this range; it is now version 21.

☯ 1. Beasts of the Mountains and Seas (1.0.120)

The demon beasts now fit the cultivation world. 26 beasts from the Classic of Mountains and Seas are each played by the Threateningly Mobs creature that looks closest to it. The creature keeps its own body, animations and attacks, and takes the myth's name (English and 中文), nature, habitat and place in the world.

Roaming the wilds (16)

Myth Played by Nature Where
Jiangshi 僵尸 Elite Zombie Warrior Blood plains, woods, swamps, caves, at night
Nine-Tailed Fox 九尾狐 Castylosaurus Shadow forests, taiga, snow
Tiangou 天狗 Tall Mouse Shadow plains, mountains, badlands, at night

Dangkang 当康 Steelboar Earth plains, forests, savanna
Gudiao 蛊雕 Basalt Wyvern Wind mountains, shores, badlands
Feiyi 肥遗 Fire Lizard Fire deserts, badlands, Nether
Huashe 化蛇 Hydra Cub Water rivers, swamps, shores

  • The elites also serve as Cave Lords, tide bosses, world bosses and warband leaders.
  • Caves, herb grottos, secret realms, beast tides, nests and eggs draw only from these 16. A cave that used to hold another creature gets the myth beast of the same nature.

☠ The Ten Great Evils: never spawn by themselves

Great evil Played by Needs Its power
Nian 年兽 Flamehorn Foundation Fire, explosions and fireworks deal ×3; shies from red items or torches you hold; a slowing roar
White Bone Demon 白骨精 Hypocritical Saint Foundation raises Bone Servants; sheds a borrowed face at ⅔ and ⅓ health
Taowu 梼杌 Titan Rabbit Golden Core ground-shaking stomps
Qiongqi 穷奇 Dracoscorpius Golden Core gales that hurl you away
Xiangliu 相柳 Lindworm Nascent Soul poison pools wherever you stand
Jiuying 九婴 Hydra (many heads) Nascent Soul fire and water by turns: burning, then freezing
Taotie 饕餮 Devourer Soul Formation inhales everything toward its maw, then bites and heals
Hundun 混沌 Shadow Spider Soul Formation scrambles everyone nearby (and itself), with nausea
Zhulong 烛龙 Earthloong Void Refining eyes open: everything burns; eyes shut: darkness
Kunpeng 鲲鹏 Riptooth Void Refining lightning on you and storm gusts
  • Each has a red boss bar and comes one realm above what it requires (or one above you, if you're higher).
  • Slaying one drops a Beast Soul Crystal on top of its stones and cores, and marks it ✔ on the altar.

Demon-Sealing Altar 封魔台 (new block)

  • Recipe: bone block · eye of ender · bone block / gold ingot · crying obsidian · gold ingot / 3 crying obsidian.
  • Right-click it to see the ten seals. Choose one, lay its offering (e.g. Nian: 8 cooked porkchops + 8 bread; Taotie: 32 steaks + 4 gold blocks) and break the seal. After a 5-second rite, lightning falls and the beast comes for you.
  • 10-minute cooldown per player; only one of each evil loose at a time. The Kunpeng must be called beside deep water.

Omens: three come by themselves

  • Nian: on a moonless night, near players of Foundation or above. Light the fires! Hang the red!
  • Kunpeng: in a thunderstorm over deep ocean (Void Refining and above).
  • White Bone Demon: at dusk a Lost Maiden waits on the road. Strike her and she becomes a Grieving Old Woman, then a Searching Old Man; strike the third false face and the demon shows itself.

⚙ Setting: [beasts] roster

Mode What it does
MYTHS default. Only the 16 myth beasts appear; great evils only by altar or omen
ALL every Threateningly Mobs creature appears as before (still with the myth names)

💬 3. Conversations

New conversation window (1.0.112 – 1.0.115)

Every dialog is now a cinematic scene, drawn from scratch in night-indigo lacquer and gold:

  • A lacquered band rises from the bottom; the game keeps running live behind it, with no dimming (1.0.115).
  • The person you're talking to stands at the left in their real 3D look, framed head and shoulders, eyes following your mouse (1.0.113 – 1.0.114). With no one to show, a gold seal stands in.
  • Name on a slanted gold tab; words write themselves out with a brush-tick sound; news in a gold strip.
  • Numbered choices on the right that slide in and glow; hover for a note.
  • Keys: 1–9 pick · Enter · Space finishes the text · wheel scrolls · Esc closes.

Talk to everyone: sneak + right-click with an empty hand (1.0.116)

  • 🧘 Wandering cultivators: news of the road, advice for your realm, requests (slay or bring), hand-ins for stones and pills, small talk (+3 regard a day), a spell book at regard 60, invite to your sect. Greetings change from Hostile to Devoted.
  • 🏯 Disciples: a heart-to-heart (+2 loyalty a day) and Train with me hunts.
  • 🐾 Your beasts: spend time with it (bond +3 a day; Golden Core beasts talk back) and What does it want? hunts (bond +10).
  • ☯ Wild beasts (parley): bow (3-minute truce), offer food (20-minute truce, maybe a nest), and for Golden Core and above: ask what troubles it (a demon core and lasting peace) or challenge it to an honourable duel. A truce holds until you strike it. Beasts in a tide hear nothing.
  • Requests show in the Missions window: up to 4, 3 days each.

🛡 4. Arrays, the Reservoir and defense

Spirit-Stone Reservoir (1.0.105 – 1.0.109)

  • New block. Recipe: gold ingot · mid-grade stone · gold ingot / mid stone · blast furnace · mid stone / 3 polished deepslate.
  • It burns spirit stones to keep every formation core within reach charged. No spirit vein needed.
  • The Spirit Vein Core is converted into a Reservoir when you place it, right-click it, or when it stands on your grounds. Its stored qi is banked and its tier carries over (reach 24 → 56 blocks; more stones per second) (1.0.106).
  • Window, rebuilt on the addon's own channel (1.0.108): stones by grade (inside / in your bag) with Put in, Take and Pour in all; a plain array line (🟢 UP · 🔴 SHATTERED · 🟡 DOWN, no qi…); core bars with drain per second; Keep at ▸ (50–100%); Treasury ▸ (master/deputy).
  • Raises a shattered array again by itself once it has recovered and is charged to 25% (1.0.107). An array you switched off yourself stays off.
  • Balanced (1.0.109): it feeds by qi, not stone count (5% a second in peace; 1–3% a second under siege by vein tier), picks the right stone for the core, banks surplus. Holding a matched siege costs about 10 stones of your core's grade a minute.

Array balance (1.0.104, 1.0.109)

  • Swarm pressure: every blow counts as the worse of its own damage or a share of the array's whole qi, so big swarms threaten even immortal arrays.
  • Flag grade sets which foes it can hold (Low → Qi Refining … Immortal → Mahayana). Each realm above that hits ×1.5 harder (to ×4); each below, ×1.5 softer.
  • Match stones to your core: one stone of the core's grade is 10% of a full charge.
  • The array strikes back: heavenly lightning on beasts battering the wall, 1–5 bolts by core (8 → 300 damage). Toggle at Sect Hall → ⚡ Array counter-strike.

Dome lattice (1.0.107 – 1.0.108)

  • Your sect's array now has the same glowing lattice as the generated sects: green (Low/Mid), blue (High), gold (Supreme/Immortal). Brighter from inside.
  • Shows only while the array is up, for every sect.

Disciples defend (1.0.107, 1.0.110)

  • No one stands idle: weak disciples band together on the weakest intruder; strong ones fight alone; the hopeless hold the line and shoot.
  • Sword Qi: every disciple can strike from 24 blocks, through your own array.
  • They go out and fight under the Fight order: they step out through the array's wall toward the foe and come back in when wounded or ordered to retreat.
  • They answer anything attacking you, a fellow, or a disciple, and any hostile within 96 blocks.
  • The alarm says why few answered: "(of 2 in the sect, 1 out of reach)".

Sect Alarm Bell (1.0.104)

  • Ring it and every disciple takes a battle station in a ring inside the array for 2 minutes. Sneak + right-click to stand down.
  • It rings itself when your sect is attacked.

Bosses fight in phases (1.0.104)

Tide Lords, Siege Marshals, War Leaders and world bosses get a boss bar and three phases: I, then II · Brood Call (66%: stronger, calls lesser beasts), then III · Heaven-Defying Shell (33%: a shell that must be broken, and poison miasma).

Battle reports (1.0.104)

After every attack: VICTORY / DEFEAT, the numbers, defenders ranked by damage (★ top), the fallen, and a timeline. The last 8 are kept (/sectreport).

🏯 5. Your sect

  • Elder Council (1.0.104): your three highest elders vote on war and alliances by loyalty and nature. Give the order again to overrule (−10 loyalty). An elder below 25 loyalty plots: appease, confront, or they defect with treasure and followers.
  • Disciple bonds (1.0.104): natures (Diligent, Lazy, Ambitious, Loyal, Greedy, Reckless); Friends, Sworn siblings, Dao companions and Rivals, with battle buffs, duels, grief and vengeance.
  • Live sect map: N (1.0.104): real terrain, buildings, arrays with qi %, disciples by duty, players, every foe; zoom and pan.
  • Token Pavilion (1.0.104): a new jade building; tokens are now issued only at its Jade Token Altar.
  • Sect Affairs page in the Sect Hall (1.0.104) gathers council, quests, escorts, world bosses, reports, bonds and the map.

🐾 6. Companions and beasts

  • Beast Chamber (1.0.105): each tamed beast's own window (ledger J → Chamber, or sneak + right-click), with armour, two charms, 3 manuals it studies, food it eats when hurt, pills, and a demon core to evolve. Break through when its qi is full (55% + bond…, max 95%).
  • Fly your mount (1.0.104): Nascent Soul beasts carry you. Jump to take off; it flies where you look.
  • Beast nests and eggs (1.0.104): guarded nests appear 48–96 blocks away. Take the egg, keep it warm (fast near fire) and the hatchling bonds to you as its parent.

⛰ 7. Spirit Vein Grottos (1.0.111)

  • The wards now cover only the grotto itself: the cavern, its stair and the shrine gate. The land above and around is free to build on.
  • New server config [spirit_vein_grottos] protection: SURFACE (default), FULL (the old way), OWNERS (the owning sect's leaders may build inside), OFF. Operators can use /sectgrotto protection <mode>.

🐛 8. Fixes

  • Crash when finishing a quest kill (1.0.119): completing a request on the same kill that counted for it no longer crashes the server.
  • Tides barely scratched high-tier arrays (1.0.104): fixed with swarm pressure.
  • Reservoir window never opened (1.0.107 – 1.0.108): rebuilt; right-clicking a reservoir always opens it.
  • Reservoir and Beast Chamber layouts overlapped (1.0.106): fixed.
  • Array lattice showing on broken arrays (1.0.107): now only while the array is up.

⚙ Technical

  • Network version 21 (new packets for the tracker, reports, map, reservoir, journal and tracking). Client and server must match.
  • New blocks:
    • sect_alarm_bell
    • beast_nest
    • token_altar
    • spirit_reservoir
    • demon_sealing_altar
  • New item: beast_egg.
  • New keys: N (sect map), O (journal). U / Shift+U for the Missions window.
  • Server config: <world>/serverconfig/xiaoxiang_sects-server.toml, with [spirit_vein_grottos] protection and [beasts] roster.
  • The myth names for Threateningly Mobs creatures come from a language file in the addon. The beasts' overhead panel always shows the myth name.
  • All new textures, models and windows are drawn from scratch.

Built as an addon for Xiaoxiang Cultivation World. Thanks also to Threateningly Mobs. I don't own those mods; anything will be removed on request.
