Web Swinger 1.0.0-beta.2
Getting the powers has changed
The suits no longer give you anything. They are cosmetic now, and the powers come from being bitten.
- Cave spiders drop a Spider Gland (5% base, +2% per level of Looting, player kills only). Brew it onto a Potion of Regeneration for a Potion of Metamorphosis, add gunpowder to make it a splash, then throw it at a live spider and let that spider bite you.
- The change takes six minutes. Two quiet, two sick, two where the powers start flickering on. Milk or death cancels it and the gland is spent.
- Once it finishes it is permanent, and it survives death and relogging.
- Server owners and creative players get
/webswinger grantand/webswinger revoketo skip the whole trip. - The gland is common rarity instead of uncommon, so it stops colouring its name in every slot.
If you played beta.1: wearing a suit will not give you powers any more. You have to go get bitten, or grant it with the command.
Wall climbing and wall running
- First person climbing is keyboard driven now. W climbs the face, S goes down it, A and D go across, and the mouse only looks around. Before this, the camera got dragged around corners for you. On a ceiling there is no "up" for W to mean, so up there it follows where you are looking. Third person is unchanged: A and D turn you, W and S drive you.
- Sprinting straight up a wall now draws a proper two legged run instead of the crawl. Speed matches a sprint, and jumping out of a run is always a wall kick.
- A wall runner turns into the direction they are running. Drifting sideways across a wall while pointed straight up looked like a bug, and it was.
- The climb toggle sticks across relogs. Pressing C at the start of every session was pure ceremony, so it is saved with your settings now.
- The shove off a wall looks like a shove. Arms swing down through the hips, legs straighten and push, all timed to the actual burst of speed instead of the old small slide.
Swinging
- Mobs too heavy to drag now anchor your swing instead of trailing behind you. Hook a ravager, an iron golem or a large slime and you swing off it. Lighter mobs still get hauled along like before, same weight limit the zip already used.
- Somersaults finish upright. A flip used to leave you leaning backwards by up to 36 degrees and hold it for the entire rest of the fall.
- Your head looks where the mouse looks. On walls, on ceilings and mid flip, the head was pointing wherever the body rotation had dragged it. It tracks the camera properly now, clamped to a normal neck range.
Camera options
Both of these are off in the sense that you control them, and both live in the mod settings screen.
- Camera lean on a swing. The view banks slightly into the arc, capped at 12 degrees and eased in. There is a slider from 0 to 100%, and 0 turns it off completely.
- Ceiling flip. When you crawl onto a ceiling the view can turn over. Choose first person, third person, both, or never. Defaults to first person only.
- The camera also stops fighting you when you cross the seam between a wall and a ceiling.
Sound
- The web shooters have their own sound. Four takes, picked at random, so a burst of shots does not repeat the same sample. They also fire on the frame you press the button now, with the dead air at the start removed. Previously it borrowed the fishing bobber and the snowball.
- A real line creak on the ground slingshot draw, instead of the honey block slide it was standing in with.
- The same creak plays mid swing when your line is stretched past its rest length, quieter than the draw. It goes silent through the slack top of every arc.
- Zipping along a line already stuck to something is a whoosh rather than a fishing rod cast, and it matches the web jump and the slingshot launch.
Fixes
- Webs no longer follow you out of a world. A line still out when you quit a singleplayer world stayed attached in the next world you loaded. The worst case was a stale anchor that reset your fall distance forever, so you could not die from falling and could not get free without restarting the game. The client half could yank you to those old coordinates the moment the next world started ticking.
- The wind, draw and swing loops come back after leaving a world. They used to go silent for the rest of the game session, not just for the world you left.
