Bronze, marbles, steel and much more... Blocks, weapons, items: over 100 unique elements with their own mechanics!

Description

Vasica Blocks

    The Bronze Age… It holds no less an important place in human history than the Stone and Iron Ages, yet in Minecraft it simply doesn’t exist! Apparently, since bronze isn’t a pure metal, Mojang got cold feet about adding it. But why didn’t they add marble?.. It would have fit perfectly into Minecraft’s architectural vibe and, honestly, I couldn’t understand why marble wasn’t in Minecraft back in 1.5.2, when I first started playing.

     This mod fixes all that! Bronze (crafted from copper and tin in roughly realistic proportions), a dozen varieties of marble in three states: raw, refined, and polished; gemstones and minerals, steel (another alloy) with its corresponding weapons, armor, and tools… All blocks can be crafted, dropped, and about half of them serve more than just decorative purposes.

     Main features (in short):

  • Bronze is weaker than iron but stronger than stone. Bronze gear enchants almost as well as gold. Bronze armor has a special perk: it protects you from knockback better than anything else in the game (even netherite). A full set lets you stand your ground like a rock when mobs hit or shoot you, which even netherite can’t do. And it can be repaired not only with bronze itself, but also with copper or tin.
  • Steel is slightly less effective than diamond (except the sword, which actually hits harder), but much more durable. It’s also somewhat easier to obtain. However, it has the lowest enchantability in the game: 2 (for comparison, gold is over 30).
  • Common Turquoise and Turquoise are not just pretty blocks — you can get shards from them, and if you eat one (yes, you heard that right — my condolences if you’re in the US with cheap health insurance), you’ll gain levitation (but only for a short while). A Turquoise shard is more effective than a regular one.
  • Raw marble found in nature looks more like puke than the refined stone we know. You can process it into normal marble (like in most modern sculptures) and then polish it further (the texture becomes sharper and adds local reflections — though for those you’ll need the Photon shader with my tweaks (I’m not sure yet if I’m allowed to upload it to CurseForge, but if I can, I will)).
  • Marble is rare, but generates in large clusters. Different biomes produce different marble types (some have none, some have one, others several).
  • Since I was also working on my large-scale map inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic III, the mod features materials that the elementals once used to build their palace — originally and modestly named the Conflux.

     Other details:

     Turquoise ore is rare, and it drops turquoise shards. From them, you can either craft a turquoise block or eat them to gain the levitation effect: a Common Turquoise Shard grants 5 seconds of levitation and 10 seconds of slow falling (so you can land softly), while a Turquoise Shard gives 10 seconds of levitation and 15 seconds of slow falling.

     To obtain bronze, place 7 copper ingots, 1 tin ingot, and 1 coal (or charcoal) in the crafting table like this:

     To craft a Matte Bronze Block, wipe a regular Bronze Block with bone meal: put a Bronze Block in the center of the crafting table and surround it with Bone Meal.

     To obtain steel, place 7 iron ingots, 1 coal, and 1 furnace in the crafting table as follows:

     This recipe yields 4 Steel Ingots.

     To craft Building Elemental Stone, combine 4 Clay Of Elementals blocks like this:

     To process a block of raw marble, put it into the stonecutter.

     To polish marble, wipe it with sand:

     Polished Flame Stone is crafted the same way, except you place a Flame Stone instead of marble.

     Malachite transforms cyclically in the stonecutter (the natural malachite cycle): Malachite Rock → Malachite Slice → Malachite Block. A Malachite Find cannot be crafted, it can only be discovered.

     Crafting a Malachite Pillar:

     Amber is not mined from ore as usual, but from amber sand and clay.

     To obtain a Cut Diamond Block, process a Diamond Block in the stonecutter.

     A Cut Diamond Block, when broken (only with a pickaxe of diamond level or higher), drops a Cut Diamond – but only if the pickaxe is enchanted with Silk Touch!

     How to add reflections in the Photon shader:

     Since I haven’t figured out if I can upload my modified version of the famous shader, here’s a simple instruction so you can tweak it yourself (it’s really easy: just add my blocks to its lists).

1.  Open the shader’s archive (for example photon_v1.0a.zip).

2.  In the shaders folder, open the file block.properties with Notepad / WordPad / VS Code.

3.  Find the line with:

# Hardcoded specular - Metals

block.10012 = iron_block gold_block copper_block netherite_block

and add at the end (with spaces, without a comma, without newline and without a semicolon) vasica:bronze_block vasica:steel_block to make:

# Hardcoded specular - Metals

block.10012 = iron_block gold_block copper_block netherite_block vasica:bronze_block vasica:steel_block

4.  Then find the line with:

# Hardcoded specular - Gems

block.10013 = diamond_block emerald_block lapis_block quartz amethyst_block budding_amethyst

and add at the end such method my blocks to make:

# Hardcoded specular - Gems

block.10013 = diamond_block emerald_block lapis_block quartz amethyst_block budding_amethyst vasica:polished_elementals_marble vasica:polished_white_marble vasica:polished_white_gold_marble vasica:polished_black_marble vasica:polished_black_gold_marble vasica:polished_yellow_marble vasica:polished_pink_marble vasica:polished_red_marble vasica:polished_gray_marble vasica:polished_cream_marble vasica:ruby_block vasica:sapphire_block vasica:amber_block vasica:cut_diamond_block

     A small drawback:
     I don’t know why, but in Creative mode blocks and armor from this mod do not show up in the inventory. However, they can still be summoned with the command:
/give PLAYER NAME vasica:bronze_block, where, vasica is the namespace of this mod, and bronze_block is the Bronze Block (just as an example).

Enjoy building with the new blocks! ;)
