What's new

New animal support

  • Added full support for rabbits, goats, and llamas.
  • Each species now has its own needs, diet, breeding, gestation, recovery, and comfort rules.
  • Rabbits now have care- and quality-influenced litters.
  • Goats have their own litter rules and can produce milk after their first birth.
  • Gold-quality goats produce milk slightly faster.
  • Llamas must be tamed before breeding and have quality-influenced recovery.
  • Donkeys and mules are now included in the equine system.
  • Horse + donkey breeding now works symmetrically and produces sterile mules.
  • Fixed inheritance of equine health, speed, and jump strength.

Chickens, nests, and shelters

  • Chicken Houses now support 1 persistent hen slot; Chicken Coops support 4.
  • Hens keep their assigned shelter slot after leaving to eat or drink.
  • Stored hen positions remain stable after returning, reloading the world, or changing list order.
  • A fifth hen is correctly rejected from a full Chicken Coop.
  • A hen’s death releases only her own slot.
  • Breaking a house or coop releases stored hens instead of deleting them.
  • Improved shelter entry when the surrounding area is crowded or enclosed.
  • Hens exit shelters from the front, using a safe forward position.
  • Added a cooldown to prevent immediate exit/re-entry loops.
  • Fixed natural nest creation in enclosed pens, under roofs, and on Dirt Path.
  • Hens no longer create unnecessary wild nests when a valid shelter is available.
  • Improved nest ownership and multiple-hen conflict handling.
  • Roosters no longer try to enter Chicken Houses or Coops.
  • Roosters stop courting hens that are nesting, brooding, pregnant, carrying fertilized eggs, hungry, thirsty, or otherwise unavailable.
  • Improved mate validation to prevent unnecessary chasing and clustering.
  • Quality eggs are now produced only by hens with the matching quality.
  • Egg quality and inheritance persist through storage and incubation.
  • Fixed egg visibility, opacity, and placement in nests.

Chicken storage and feathers

  • Chicken Houses and Chicken Coops now open storage interfaces.
  • Chicken Houses use a small-chest interface with 27 slots.
  • Chicken Coops use a double-chest interface with 54 slots.
  • Players can inspect and remove stored eggs and feathers individually.
  • Storage is extraction-only, preventing accidental insertion or item loss.
  • Contents persist through save/load and block breaking.
  • Adult quality chickens can now grow feathers.
  • Eligible chickens can be sheared for feathers.
  • Added feather regrowth time.
  • Feathers from stored hens are kept in their house or coop.
  • Nests store up to 5 feathers.
  • Removed the artificial feather visual from nests.

Small Feeding Trough

  • Added the Small Feeding Trough.
  • Available in all 11 wood variants.
  • Can hold food or water.
  • Designed for chickens, rabbits, babies, and other small animals.
  • Small troughs now connect properly and share food, water, and capacity.
  • Fixed connection issues that could break the block or render incorrect models.
  • Slightly reduced the model height.
  • Food and water now fill the entire inner basin.
  • Fixed invisible borders, side cuts, and gaps between the contents and trough.
  • Added dedicated visuals for:
    • seeds, wheat, and hay;
    • carrots;
    • potatoes;
    • beetroot.
  • Fixed collision and outline behavior without creating invisible barriers for players.
  • Animals can no longer climb into or become stuck inside troughs.

Troughs and water

  • Wooden feeding troughs can now hold water.
  • A wooden trough stores one bucket, equal to 16 drink servings.
  • Iron water troughs store four buckets, equal to 64 servings.
  • Water consumption now scales with animal size:
    • small animals and babies drink less;
    • medium animals drink a moderate amount;
    • cows, equines, and llamas drink more.
  • Old water data is migrated to the new serving system.
  • Fixed partial-bucket extraction.
  • Fixed Creative-mode bucket interactions to prevent duplication.
  • Different foods are no longer mixed or converted when troughs connect.

Trough AI

  • Hungry or thirsty animals only seek troughs containing a usable resource.
  • Satisfied animals ignore troughs.
  • Empty troughs and troughs with incompatible food no longer attract animals.
  • Animals immediately abandon a trough if another animal consumes the last serving.
  • Trough approach now uses natural Minecraft navigation.
  • Fixed animals standing still and staring at reachable troughs.
  • Animals can reach troughs across slabs and small terrain changes.
  • Serving distance now accounts for animal size.
  • Animals cannot eat or drink from far away or through walls.
  • Blocked or stalled routes are abandoned.
  • Added coverage for horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and rabbits.

Visuals and compatibility

  • Added a shallow woven-twig rim beneath farm and twig nests.
  • Kept the larger bedding area introduced in 0.5.63.
  • Jade now displays the real wood variant for troughs, Chicken Houses, and Chicken Coops.
  • Pick Block now returns the matching wood-variant item.
  • Restored compatibility with CEM sleeping-pose resource packs.
  • Improved Quality Food compatibility:
    • displayed product quality matches the animal’s actual quality;
    • eggs preserve quality;
    • compatible cooked products preserve quality;
    • existing quality progress is migrated safely.
  • Maintained compatibility with Incubation and Blueprint.
  • Updated the Patchouli guide with rabbits, goats, and llamas.

Fixes and performance

  • Reduced repeated partner and entity searches.
  • Added mate caching with immediate invalidation when a partner becomes unavailable.
  • Nest and trough searches now stay within loaded chunks.
  • Reduced unnecessary block scans, updates, and synchronization.
  • Improved stored-hen rendering cache behavior.
  • Fixed potential loss of hens, eggs, feathers, and ownership during save/load.
  • Added migrations for old shelter ownership, water storage, and quality data.
  • Removed obsolete temporary NBT data when no longer needed.
  • Conservatively cleaned up duplicated code, dead code, and replaceable deprecated API usage.
  • Expanded automated GameTest coverage for breeding, troughs, shelters, saves, quality, and compatibility.
