Lava Sponge
Lava Sponge is a simple yet powerful addition to Minecraft — a true vanilla-style sponge that absorbs lava just like the classic water sponge. Perfect for that nether build you never did, lava clearing, or any fiery situation!
Features
- Works exactly like the vanilla Sponge, but for lava.
- Absorbs nearby lava blocks within a radius (6).
- Can soak up to 64 lava source blocks before turning into a Wet Lava Sponge.
- Fully compatible with vanilla physics, redstone, and fluid behavior.
- Keeps the vanilla Minecraft aesthetic — no unnecessary complexity or magic.
How to Obtain
Lava Sponges can be found naturally as rare loot in several Nether structures and also in Overworld:
- Bastion Remnants — 30% chance to appear in bridge, treasure, hoglin stable, and other chests.
- Nether Fortresses — 30% chance to appear in bridge chests.
- Ruined Portals — 40% chance to appear in portal chests.
Each loot chest can contain up to 2 Lava Sponges, making them a valuable but balanced find for Nether explorers.
Compatibility
- Compatible with Fabric Loader and other vanilla-friendly mods.
- Lightweight and server-safe — can be used in multiplayer worlds.
Gameplay Note
When a Lava Sponge absorbs lava, it instantly turns into a Wet Lava Sponge.
Unlike normal sponges, Wet Lava Sponges can be “recharged” by placing them in the End dimension, where they will revert back to Lava Sponges.
