1.12.0 — Ask the birds
Added
- The Unfinished Epitaph. The eighth mural is written by someone the ruins never name — the last keeper, who buried everyone else and asked whoever came next to leave something behind. Nobody carved their stone. This is it, unfinished, and about one Gilded Reliquary in a hundred still holds it.
Set it down and cut your own name into it, and the graveyard settles. The graves stop giving anyone up, and opening one afterwards turns out nothing but coarse dirt. Passage five is the reason it works: they do not know us. Now one of the names down there is yours.
It is a trade, not a reward — a settled ruin is finished, and finished means it will never hand you another memory. What you get is somewhere quiet to live. It asks before it lets you do it, and tells you which of the three things you are about to do: end a graveyard, add a second stone to one already settled, or stand a marker somewhere that has no graves at all. The stone does not come back, however you break it. - Mourners will point the way to the next ruin. Show a circling Mourner a Fractured Memory and it breaks off, calls, and flies out along the bearing of a Guarded Ruin you have not found yet, trailing motes behind it for about eight seconds before gliding back to its circle. It gives you a direction, not an escort — the walk is still yours. A bird on foot has no ruin to measure from and will not take the memory; nor will one already flying a bearing. If there is nothing within range it declines and you keep the memory.
A reason to leave the birds alive, at last. Shooting them still ends that ruin's vigil for good. - A surplus Echo of Kinship is worth experience. Past the attunement cap an Echo used to refuse you with a grey line and nothing else, so every Sentinel after your fourth ruin dropped the rarest item in the mod into a pocket where it did nothing. It now gives up what it is holding: 500 experience, the same as a returning Ender Dragon. No confirmation, because at the cap there is no better thing you could have done with it.
Changed
- The Stone Sentinel is worth 50 experience, matching the Wither. It had been dropping 5 — the game's default for any hostile mob — since the day it was added, so the boss the whole mod is gated behind paid out exactly what a zombie does.
Fixed
- Mourners no longer snap back to their circle. Leaving a tree after a roost, a bird would cross the thirty-odd blocks back to its patrol in about three ticks, which read as teleporting rather than flying. It now climbs back under the same measured glide a returning guide uses. This has been there since perching was added and only shows if you happen to be watching the bird rather than the ground.
- A startled Mourner still bolts, but at a speed a bird could actually manage.
