What's new
1.11.0 — Set down, and lit
The Binding Altar stops being a machine you feed and becomes a place you leave things. And several things now hold their light in the dark.
Added
- The altar keeps what you put on it. Close the screen and the charm and Fractured Memories stay where you left them — through a reload, a trip to the surface, a night's sleep. Break the altar and everything on it drops.
- And it shows them. The charm lies flat in the rune ring cut into the table, and the memories you have paid toward its binding turn slowly above it. Past eight they fill a second ring, higher and turning the other way, so a full stack of sixteen is exactly two full rings — you can read how close a binding is from across the room without opening anything.
- All of it while the screen is open, too. Lay a charm in the slot and it appears on the stone in the same moment; take a binding and the orbit thins as the memories are spent.
- Things glow in the dark. A charm's rune burns while the deepslate plate around it stays unlit. The Fractured Memory's crack burns — the crack only, not the stone it runs through — and cycles through the four charm colours as it always has. The Echo of Kinship burns whole. All of it applies wherever the item is: in your hand, dropped on the ground, in an item frame, or lying on an altar.
Changed
- The memories circling an altar light themselves, and rise and fall in brightness with the colour they are currently showing — dimmest on the Wanderer's green, brightest on the Leaper's blue.
Notes
- The Binding Altar can no longer be pushed by pistons. Minecraft refuses to push any block that stores contents, and the altar stores them now. If you have one in a piston contraption, it will stop moving.
- Altars already standing in your world pick all of this up; nothing needs rebuilding and no existing charm or ruin is affected.
- While one player has an altar open, another opening the same one finds it empty — the first player is holding its contents until they close the screen. This is deliberate: it is what stops two people carrying off the same charm.
