MITE-Underworld

Comprehensively overhaul the original gameplay to make it more challenging.

Underworld

One cannot simply walk into the mountains and mine iron ore with a stone pickaxe in hand.

After living through so many days and nights of survival, you need to consider things that are more practical.

The concept for the Underworld mod draws inspiration from a mod originally created for Minecraft version 1.6.4 (MITE—Minecraft Is Too Easy), the development of which has since ceased. The original mod added a wealth of content by directly overwriting and modifying core class files, rendering it incompatible with any other mods. This project aims to recreate that experience and update it to version 26.1.2, utilizing NeoForge to ensure compatibility with modern versions of the game.

New player status and leveling systems

  • Players start with only three units of health and hunger;
  • Leveling up increases the maximum limits for health and hunger (an increase occurs every 5 levels), capping at 40 for health and 20 for hunger;
  • Players track three initial status metrics: protein, plant nutrients, and insulin response. Different foods provide varying amounts of these nutrients; critically low levels of protein or plant nutrients lead to malnutrition, slowing down natural health regeneration, while excessive consumption of sugary foods leads to diabetes;
  • Crafting takes time, with the duration varying depending on the item;
  • Health cannot be restored by eating; it regenerates slowly over time, though lying in a bed accelerates this recovery;
  • Food consumption rates have increased, and performing various actions rapidly depletes hunger; players must gather sufficient food early on to survive the grueling nights;

New tool tiers and destructive capabilities

  • The original wooden, stone, diamond, and Netherite tool and armor sets have been removed;
  • A brand-new progression system has been introduced, featuring tiers ranging from low to high: Flint → Copper, Silver, Gold (same tier) → Iron → Ancient Metal → Mithril → Adamantium. Mining requirements for certain blocks have been adjusted; low-tier tools cannot break high-tier blocks;
  • Tools of different tiers must be crafted at corresponding crafting stations; you cannot craft high-tier items at a low-tier crafting station;
  • The durability, attack power, and armor values of all tools have been significantly nerfed, making encounters with monsters far more perilous. The "invincible stand-and-fight" tactic from the vanilla game is no longer viable; direct confrontation may be impossible, requiring you to proceed with extreme caution and a calculated, step-by-step approach;

New furnaces and fuel

  • Removed the vanilla Furnace, Blast Furnace, and Smoker;
  • Added Clay Furnaces, Large Clay Furnaces, Cobblestone Furnaces, Obsidian Furnaces, and Netherrack Furnaces, with each type supporting different ores and fuels;
  • Adamant must be smelted in a Netherrack Furnace using a Blaze Rod;

New monsters

  • The mod adds a variety of new monsters, including Wraiths, Wights, Black Ghouls, Shadow Lurkers, Ghouls, Ancient Skeleton Lords, Ancient Corpses, Skeleton Lords, Phase Spiders, Demon Spiders, Nether Crawlers, Stone Elementals, Obsidian Elementals, Netherrack Elementals, End Stone Elementals, Gray Slimes, Black Slimes, Red Slimes, Brown Slimes, and Hellhounds;
  • All new monsters are hostile toward the player and primarily spawn in the deep layers of the Overworld and in the Nether dimension;

New dimension

  • A new "Underground World" dimension has been added; this is a sunless, perilous, and dark realm teeming with abundant resources but also rife with deadly monsters.
  • Ancient Metal is found exclusively in chests within mob spawner rooms in the Underground World; it is a prerequisite for crafting Mithril tools—you must locate Ancient Metal to advance to the Mithril Age.
  • The requirements for accessing the Nether have been adjusted: players must first build a portal on the Overworld's bedrock layer to enter the Underground World, and then construct another portal on the mantle at the Underground World's lowest level (around Y-level -64) to access the Nether.
  • The Nether is far more dangerous than in the vanilla game; all monsters will actively seek out and attack the player, with no neutral mobs present.

New farming and animal husbandry

  • Adjusted the growth rates of most plants; they now have stricter requirements, necessitating sunlight, fertilizer, and a water source—all of which are essential.
  • Modified the function of bone meal; it can no longer accelerate crop maturation and is now used solely to treat plant diseases.
  • Plants can contract diseases, causing them to stop growing; if left untreated for an extended period, they will gradually wither.
  • Animal husbandry requirements have been raised; animals now need a suitable environment, appropriate fodder, a reliable water source, and comfortable conditions to grow.
  • Animals periodically produce manure, which can be used to increase soil fertility and accelerate crop growth.
  • Animals may fall ill if kept in unsuitable environments; prolonged illness can lead to death.

Enchanting Table Adjustments

  • Added an Emerald Enchanting Table with slightly lower enchanting power;
  • You need 80 bookshelves to reach maximum enchanting power;
  • Enchanting power varies depending on the metal used;
  • Enchanting no longer consumes levels, but instead costs a specific amount of experience points;

Anvil and Grinding Wheel Adjustment

  • Adjusted the materials required for equipment repair and removed the experience cost;
  • Enchantments can no longer be combined on an anvil;
  • The grindstone must be used in conjunction with a Bottle of Disenchanting to remove enchantments—including all types of curses—from tools and armor;

Blood Moon

  • A Blood Moon occurs in the Overworld every 32 days; during this event, monsters become more dangerous, and crops and livestock face a higher risk of disease or even death.

Other adjustments

  • Adjusted the properties of certain blocks so they are now affected by gravity and will fall naturally;
  • Modified sleeping mechanics: sleeping outdoors is no longer possible; players must construct a secure shelter to sleep in a bed during the night;
  • Monsters are now more intelligent and will aggressively track the player;
  • Structures such as villages no longer spawn in the immediate vicinity; they will only appear in new chunks once specific conditions are met;
  • Adjusted stronghold spawn locations, making them difficult to reach during the early game;

Other unimplemented features and future plans

  • The Witch's Curse
  • Tools and armor of varying quality
  • Equipment upgrading, forging, and enhancement
  • And more...
